Potholes, larger rims and diamond-cut finishes keep alloy wheel repair growing above 6% a year
The alloy wheel repair market stood at USD 3.42 Billion in 2025, with Radial Insights projecting USD 3.63 Billion in 2026 and USD 6.21 Billion by 2035, a 6.15% CAGR.
Our scope covers paid repair and refinishing of light-vehicle alloy wheels: cosmetic curb-rash repair, diamond-cut and CNC lathe refinishing, straightening of bent rims, structural crack welding where permitted, and powder coating or color changes. We count service revenue from mobile technicians, fixed workshops and dealer in-house bays, plus sales of repair lathes, straighteners, paints and consumables. New and replacement wheel sales, tire fitting and steel wheel repair are excluded.
Demand comes from road damage, vehicle age and the move to larger, machined wheels. The AA attended 613,638 pothole callouts in the UK in 2025, about 1,681 a day, with an average repair bill of 350 pounds. The UK car parc reached 36.68 million cars, with an average age of 9.7 years, and the EU had about 256 million cars on its roads in 2024.
Diamond-Cut Refinishing is the fastest-growing repair type, at an 8.12% CAGR, because bright-machined faces cannot be touched up with paint and need a CNC lathe pass. Asia Pacific (APAC) is the fastest-growing region at 7.43%, as alloy wheels spread through the Chinese and Indian new-car mix.
Europe is the largest region, with 33.20% of 2025 revenue, led by the UK, where franchise networks such as The Wheel Specialist and DA Techs have built national coverage.

Cosmetic refurbishment leads repair types, while diamond-cut work grows fastest at 8.12%
Cosmetic refurbishment of scuffs and curb rash is the most common job, but its 5.42% CAGR tracks the parc. Diamond-cut refinishing grows at 8.12% because each repair needs a CNC lathe skim and a lacquer coat; WheelRestore's WR-DCM3 machine, promoted to dealers in August 2025, targets this work. Straightening grows at 5.86% on pothole damage, powder coating and color changes at 6.38%, and crack welding at only 4.73%, since many OEMs and insurers will not accept welded structural repairs.
Mobile on-site repair grows at 7.24% as franchise vans add lathes
Fixed workshops grow at 5.31%. Mobile repair rises at 7.24%: DA Techs reports more than 250,000 wheels repaired, 95% the same day, with on-site diamond cutting up to 23 inches. Dealer in-house repair grows at 6.67% as dealers buy kits to keep used-car preparation margins.
Wheels of 21 inches and above climb at 7.95%
Wheels up to 17 inches grow at 4.12%, held back by shrinking fitment on new cars. The 18 to 20 inch band grows at 6.58%. Wheels of 21 inches and above post a 7.95% CAGR, driven by premium SUVs and electric vehicles with low-profile tires that offer little rim protection.
Dealerships and remarketing grow at 6.92%, ahead of private owners
Individual owners grow at 5.48%. Dealerships and remarketing grow at 6.92% because wheel damage is one of the most common defects on returned and part-exchange cars. Fleet and leasing companies grow at 6.71%, and insurance-funded repairs at 6.35%, helped by new pothole cover such as ALA Insurance's policy launched in August 2026.
Repair equipment and CNC lathes grow at 6.82%
Repair services grow at 6.04%. Equipment and CNC lathes grow at 6.82% as makers such as Ayce Systems, Cormak and Yancheng Yujie Machine sell to new franchisees and dealers. Paints and consumables grow at 5.77%.

Market Dynamics
Market Trends
Dealers are bringing wheel repair in-house
In August 2025 WheelRestore, part of HBC System, published its case for dealer in-house repair, built around the WR-DCM3 diamond-cut machine, the WM600 paint robot, a mobile CNC lathe and an electro-hydraulic straightener. Dealers that fix wheels on site avoid sending cars out for two or three days during used-car preparation.
Franchise networks are recruiting hard
DA Techs ran a franchise recruitment drive through the British Franchise Association in October 2025, and The Wheel Specialist followed in February 2026, citing 23 franchised units, more than 1.5 million wheels refurbished and an average order of 276 pounds. Franchising spreads the cost of lathes and booths across many small operators.
Insurers are pricing pothole damage separately
Tesco Insurance said in March 2026 that January 2026 pothole claims were a record, equal to 56% of all its 2025 claims. In August 2026 ALA Insurance launched a standalone pothole policy covering alloys and tires up to 2,000 pounds a year, with premiums capped at 37.40 pounds, and quoted typical alloy repair costs of 150 to 250 pounds.
Chinese lathe makers are entering export markets
Yancheng Yujie Machine said in October 2026 that it will show its AWR28L CNC diamond-cut wheel repair lathe at Automechanika Shanghai 2026. Lower-priced Chinese machines cut the entry cost for new workshops in Asia Pacific (APAC), Latin America and the Middle East.
Restraints and Challenges
Structural repair limits narrow the job pool
Many OEMs and insurers will not accept welding of cracked wheels, so a share of damaged rims is replaced rather than repaired. Crack welding grows at only 4.73%, the slowest repair type.
Road funding could reduce damage over time
The UK gave councils 1.6 billion pounds for 2025/26, about 50% more than the year before, and set 7.3 billion pounds for local roads over four years. If backlogs shrink, pothole-driven repair demand would ease. The ALARM 2026 survey still put the carriageway repair backlog in England and Wales at 18.62 billion pounds, about 12 years of work.
Fragmented, owner-run supply
Most repairers are small, owner-run shops. Quality varies, warranties are short, and buyers struggle to compare quotes. Franchise brands and dealer programs help, but national price transparency is weak.
Data gaps on wheel fitment
Wheel material is not recorded in most registration data. The ACEA vehicles on European roads report counts about 256 million cars in the EU, but not how many carry alloy wheels, so repairers plan capacity with limited fitment data.
Growth Drivers
Pothole damage is rising faster than road budgets
The AA attended 613,638 pothole callouts in 2025, or about 1,681 a day, and put the yearly cost of pothole damage to UK drivers at 645 million pounds, up 66 million pounds. The RAC counted 26,048 pothole-related breakdowns in 2025, up 15% from 22,703, including 4,999 in the fourth quarter alone. The ALARM 2026 survey found an 18.62 billion pound repair backlog in England and Wales even though highway budgets rose 17% on average. In the United States, AAA estimated that drivers paid 26.5 billion dollars for pothole repairs in 2021, with about 1 in 10 drivers needing a repair averaging close to 600 dollars. Bent rims and cracked lips are among the most frequent results. We estimate road damage contributes about +1.6% of annual growth to the alloy wheel repair market through 2035.
Older parcs and used-car remarketing
The UK vehicle parc reached a record 42.55 million vehicles, including 36.68 million cars, with an average car age of 9.7 years. In the EU, ACEA counted about 256 million cars in 2024, up 1.4%. Older cars change hands more often, and dealers refurbish wheels before resale because curb rash cuts the price buyers will pay. Leasing companies charge for wheel damage at end of contract, so lessees repair before return. Dealer and remarketing demand is the main reason the dealerships segment grows at 6.92%. This driver lifts the market CAGR by roughly +1.2 percentage points.
Larger, machined wheels raise job value
New cars, premium SUVs and electric vehicles increasingly ship on 19 to 22 inch wheels with diamond-cut faces. These wheels cost more to replace, so owners repair them, and each repair needs a lathe pass, lacquer and balancing, raising the ticket. The Wheel Specialist's average order is 276 pounds, and ALA Insurance quotes 150 to 250 pounds for a typical alloy repair. DA Techs offers on-site diamond cutting up to 23 inches. We attribute close to +1.0% a year of market growth to the shift in wheel size and finish, which is why diamond-cut refinishing grows at 8.12% and wheels of 21 inches and above at 7.95%.
Opportunities
Insurer and leasing framework contracts
Insurers such as Tesco Insurance and ALA Insurance now see wheels as the most common pothole damage. Repair networks that can offer fixed prices, photo evidence and same-day mobile service are well placed to win panel work from insurers and leasing firms.
Dealer equipment packages in growth regions
Dealers in Asia Pacific (APAC), the Middle East and Latin America buy cars with machined alloys but have few specialist repairers. Equipment makers such as WheelRestore, Ayce Systems and Yancheng Yujie Machine can bundle lathes, training and paint supply for these dealer groups.
Europe leads alloy wheel repair revenue and Asia Pacific (APAC) grows fastest
Europe
Within Europe, alloy wheel repair accounted for 33.20% of 2025 global revenue. In Europe, the market was worth USD 1,135.44 Million in 2025 and reaches USD 1,926.67 Million by 2035, a 5.43% CAGR. The UK leads, with 613,638 AA pothole callouts in 2025 and a 36.68 million car parc, while Germany, France and Italy add a large base of premium cars with machined wheels in Europe.
North America
North America held 31.40% in 2025. In North America, revenue was USD 1,073.88 Million in 2025 and will reach USD 1,839.56 Million in 2035, growing at 5.53% a year. AWRS operates franchised and company-owned sites in 46 US states, and Dent Wizard runs mobile wheel refinishing for dealers across North America.

China and India are adding alloy wheels to mid-range cars, and Chinese lathe makers such as Yancheng Yujie Machine supply 28 inch capable machines to Asia Pacific (APAC) workshops.
Latin America
Latin America took 4.90% of 2025 revenue. In Latin America, the market was USD 167.58 Million in 2025 and should reach USD 321.43 Million in 2035, a 6.73% CAGR. Brazil and Mexico have large used-car markets, and poor urban road surfaces in Latin America drive straightening work.
Middle East
The Middle East held 3.40% in 2025. Across the Middle East, revenue was USD 116.28 Million in 2025 and is projected at USD 229.38 Million by 2035, growing at 7.03%. A high share of SUVs on 20 inch and larger wheels in the Gulf states lifts the average job value in the Middle East.
Africa
Across Africa, sales represented 1.50% of 2025 revenue. In Africa, the market was USD 51.30 Million in 2025 and is forecast at USD 100.26 Million in 2035, a 6.93% CAGR. South Africa holds most of the specialist repairers and diamond-cut lathes installed in Africa.

Franchise networks and equipment makers, not wheel OEMs, shape the alloy wheel repair market
The alloy wheel repair market is highly fragmented. Thousands of independent shops sit alongside a few franchise brands and a small group of specialist equipment makers. We group the main players into four tiers.
US service networks
Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists (AWRS) is the largest US network, with franchised and company-owned locations in 46 states; private equity firm Breck Partners bought it in June 2023. Dent Wizard, owned by Dealer Tire since 2020, offers mobile wheel refinishing to dealers after buying Rim Doctor in 2018, and sells wheel repair alongside paintless dent repair.
UK franchise brands
The Wheel Specialist runs a workshop franchise model offering diamond cutting and powder coating, with 23 franchised units and an average order of 276 pounds. DA Techs focuses on mobile repair, including on-site diamond cutting up to 23 inches, with 95% of jobs done the same day. ChipsAway offers alloy repair within its broader smart-repair franchise. Wheel Surgery operates refurbishment centers, starting with Derby in 2020.
Repair equipment makers
WheelRestore, part of HBC System, sells diamond-cut machines, paint robots and straighteners to dealers and repairers. Ayce Systems, a UK firm, makes an all-in-one CNC diamond-cut lathe for wheels up to 28 inches. Cormak of Poland sells the TDF 660 vertical wheel lathe. Diamond Cut Refinishing in Portsmouth exports lathes worldwide. Yancheng Yujie Machine of China sells CNC wheel repair lathes such as the AWR28L.
Adjacent wheel service suppliers
Hunter Engineering supplies Road Force balancers used after wheel repair, and updated its Road Force WalkAway balancer at SEMA in November 2025. Competition among repairers turns on finish quality, turnaround time, warranty and the ability to serve dealers and insurers at scale, while equipment makers compete on lathe accuracy, size range and training.
