Global Tire Import Trade Flows

The Global Tire Import Trade Flows view tracks where the world's tires are actually consumed rather than built: 2024 estimated import volumes for 107 countries under HS code 4011, split by passenger car (HS 401110), truck and bus (HS 401120), motorcycle (HS 401140), light commercial vehicle and OTR, agricultural and other specialty tires (HS 401170 to 90). It is the demand side counterpart to the Country Footprint view, which maps manufacturing rather than trade.

Each entry lists the country's region, import volume by tire category in million units, the total, PCR and TBR share of that total, and a net trade balance figure, exports minus imports, that flags whether a market is a net exporter (positive) or a net importer (negative).

Global tire imports totalled an estimated 2.13 billion units in 2024, with passenger car radials the dominant category at 1,065.6 million units (50.0% of the total), followed by truck and bus radials at 551.7 million (25.9%). The United States alone imported 273.4 million units, 12.8% of the world total and more than the next two countries combined, and ran the largest net import deficit in the dataset at -89.9 million units. China sits at the opposite extreme: it imports 103.0 million units but exports far more, giving it the largest net trade surplus at +815.0 million units. Overall, just 18 of the 107 tracked markets are net exporters, the other 89 are net importers.
