Inspection systems and new Asian radial capacity set the pace for tire equipment spending through 2035

Radial Insights values the global tire manufacturing machinery market at USD 4.86 Billion in 2025, rising to USD 5.07 Billion in 2026 and USD 7.44 Billion by 2035 at a CAGR of 4.35%. Demand follows tire plant capex cycles, and those cycles turned upward again in 2025 and 2026 as producers in China, India, Thailand and the United States committed fresh money to radial capacity.

Our scope covers new machinery and associated upgrades sold to tire producers: internal mixers and mixing lines, extruders and calenders, bead and cutting equipment, green tire building machines, curing presses, and end-of-line inspection and testing systems. Spare parts and service contracts sold by machinery makers are included. Molds, curing bladders, general plant utilities, tire recycling equipment and retreading equipment sit outside this tire manufacturing machinery estimate and are covered in separate Radial Insights reports.

Supplier revenue gives a useful floor. The European Rubber Journal machinery survey published in 2025 recorded USD 3.735 billion of 2024 tire and rubber machinery sales among responding companies alone, up 14.1%, with Mesnac at USD 661 million, VMI Group at USD 563 million and HF Group at USD 484 million. Adding non-respondents and non-tire rubber work removed gives our 2025 base.

Inspection and testing systems are the fastest machine segment at 6.21% a year, as plants add X-ray, uniformity and vision checks to automated lines. Smart factory integrated lines grow even faster at 7.36%. Africa is the fastest region at 5.57% from a small base, while Asia Pacific (APAC) adds the most absolute value, moving from USD 2.25 Billion to USD 3.68 Billion.

The market is cyclical. A single greenfield radial plant can require several hundred million dollars of equipment, so the timing of a handful of projects by Continental, Pirelli, Apollo Tyres, Sailun or ZC Rubber can swing annual orders. Our forecast smooths those swings into a decade trend.

Tire building machines lead spending, while inspection systems grow fastest at 6.21%

Tire building machines remain the largest single machine category because every radial line needs first-stage and second-stage building capacity, and the machines carry high unit prices. VMI Group showed its MILEXX truck tire building machine at Tire Technology Expo in Hannover in February 2025, a sign of continuing investment in truck radial building. Their 4.72% CAGR trails inspection and testing systems at 6.21%, where automakers' demand for traceability and lower defect rates pushes plants to add X-ray, uniformity, balance and vision stations. Curing presses grow at 4.18%, helped by orders such as those L&T Rubber Processing Machinery won from Indian tire makers in September 2025. Mixing equipment, at 3.86%, depends on fewer, larger purchases and on replacement of aging mixers.

Off-the-road and agricultural tires grow at 4.88% on specialty capacity additions

Passenger car and light truck tires take the largest share of equipment demand, growing at 4.46%, supported by projects such as Continental's Rayong expansion of 3 million passenger and light truck tires a year. Truck and bus radial equipment grows at 4.31%, backed by Sailun's Shenyang plan for 3.3 million all-steel radials. Off-the-road and agricultural tires post 4.88% because builders such as BKT and CEAT keep adding specialty capacity, and large OTR tires need heavier, costlier building and curing equipment. Two-wheeler tires grow slowest at 3.92%, since lines are cheaper and less automated.

Smart factory integrated lines grow at 7.36%, more than three times semi-automatic equipment

Semi-automatic equipment grows at only 2.14% as new plants rarely specify it. Fully automatic lines grow at 4.95%, while smart factory integrated lines, with manufacturing execution software, sensors and automated material handling linked across the plant, rise at 7.36%. Pirelli's plan for a robotized, fully automated facility in Rome, Georgia and the AI-driven automation that Siemens showed at Tire Technology Expo 2026 illustrate the direction.

Regional and emerging tire makers expand at 5.48%, faster than global tier-1 producers

Global tier-1 tire makers grow at 3.71% because their spending shifts between regions rather than adding net capacity, as Apollo's closure of its Enschede plant shows. Regional and emerging tire makers, led by Chinese and Indian groups, grow at 5.48%. Retreaders and specialty producers trail at 3.25%.

Retrofit and upgrade work rises at 5.34% as plants modernize existing halls

New equipment grows at 4.12%. Retrofit and upgrades grow faster at 5.34% because many producers prefer to add automation and controls to installed machines rather than build new halls. Aftermarket spares and services grow at 4.69%, tracking the installed base.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Tire makers return to large brownfield capex programs

After a cautious 2024, capex plans grew in size. Apollo Tyres announced INR 58 billion of investment over FY27 to FY29 at its Andhra Pradesh plant in February 2026, adding 10,500 passenger radials and 3,600 truck and bus radials a day. JK Tyre set out INR 4,980 crore of new brownfield expansion in June 2026, lifting radial capacity by 24%. Each project translates into building machines, presses and mixers.

Factory automation becomes the default specification

Pirelli's board approved roughly EUR 1 billion for its Rome, Georgia plant in September 2026, with a first robotized phase of 3 million tires a year and a second fully automated facility of another 3 million. At Tire Technology Expo 2026 in March, with more than 240 exhibitors, Siemens showed AI-driven automation for tire production. Automation content per line is rising across the tire manufacturing machinery market.

Chinese machinery makers gain global share

Mesnac said in May 2026 that it again ranked first worldwide in rubber machinery sales. Its revenue reached CNY 8.32 billion in 2025, up 16%, although net profit fell by more than 20%, a sign of price competition. Chinese suppliers accounted for USD 1.79 billion of 2024 sales among ERJ survey respondents, ahead of the USD 1.53 billion from European suppliers.

Southeast Asia absorbs export-oriented capacity

Continental opened its Rayong, Thailand expansion in May 2026, an investment of more than EUR 300 million adding 3 million tires a year. ZC Rubber committed CNY 1.8 billion in April 2025 to more than double its Hangzhou smart factory. Trade rules push tire makers to spread capacity across Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia, which spreads machinery orders too.

Restraints and Challenges

Flat volumes in mature markets limit net new capacity

USTMA projected US tire shipments of 337.4 million units for 2025, essentially flat against 337.3 million in 2024, with OE truck tires falling from 5.7 million to 4.6 million (USTMA forecast). ETRMA data showed European consumer replacement sales down 1% to 110.3 million units in the first half of 2025. Flat demand caps greenfield projects in these regions.

Lumpy orders and long lead times

Machinery orders depend on a small number of plant projects. When a single program such as Continental's EUR 300 million Rayong expansion completes, the supplier pipeline can drop sharply. Long lead times for building machines and presses also expose suppliers to cancellations if tire demand softens.

Price pressure squeezes supplier margins

Mesnac grew 2025 revenue by 16% while net profit fell to CNY 403.1 million, and L&T Rubber Processing Machinery reported a 27% sales decline for 2024. Low-cost Chinese competition and tire makers' purchasing discipline keep pricing tight across the tire manufacturing machinery market.

Plant closures in high-cost regions

Apollo Tyres planned to close its Enschede plant in the Netherlands by June 2026, moving output to Hungary and India. Closures in Europe and South Africa free up second-hand machinery, which competes with new equipment in emerging markets.

Growth Drivers

India's radial capacity race

Indian tire makers are running close to full capacity and have lined up fresh capex. In June 2026, JK Tyre set out INR 4,980 crore of new brownfield expansion to 2029, Apollo planned INR 3,500 crore for FY27, CEAT budgeted about INR 1,300 to 1,400 crore including mixers and calenders for its CAMSO business, and BKT outlined about INR 6,800 crore to FY29. Apollo alone plans to raise Andhra Pradesh output from about 58,000 to 68,500 passenger radials a day. Kobe Steel's decision in June 2025 to invest JPY 3 billion in its Indian machinery plant shows suppliers following the demand. We estimate Indian capex adds about +0.6% of annual growth to the global tire manufacturing machinery market through 2030, easing after the current wave of projects is commissioned.

Automation and quality traceability requirements

Automakers and fleet buyers require full traceability of every tire, and tire makers face rising labor costs in China, Europe and North America. This pushes spending toward fully automatic and smart factory integrated lines. Pirelli's US plan specifies a fully automated conventional facility, and Siemens has positioned AI-driven automation for tire plants. Cimcorp, which supplies automated material handling to tire plants, grew 2024 sales by 58.7% to USD 173 million. Inspection and testing systems, growing at 6.21%, benefit directly. We credit automation and traceability with roughly 1.1 percentage points of the 4.35% CAGR, the largest single contribution among drivers.

Capacity relocation and localization driven by trade rules

Tariffs and anti-dumping duties are leading tire makers to build plants closer to end markets and to diversify export hubs. Pirelli is expanding in Georgia to serve US customers locally, Continental expanded Rayong for export markets, and Sailun bought Bridgestone's Shenyang truck tire plant for RMB 265 million in July 2025 before breaking ground in September 2025 on an RMB 1.70 billion expansion. Every relocation creates demand for a full equipment set even when global tire volume barely changes. This driver lifts market growth by an estimated 0.8 points a year, with the effect concentrated in Southeast Asia and North America.

Opportunities

Retrofitting installed lines with sensors and controls

Many plants still run building machines and presses installed well over a decade ago. Selling control upgrades, sensors and software to these plants, a segment growing at 5.34%, gives machinery makers recurring work with lower capital risk for buyers.

Specialty and large off-the-road tire capacity

BKT and CEAT investments show steady demand for agricultural and OTR capacity. These tires need large, heavy building drums and curing presses, which carry higher unit values and fewer competitors than passenger tire equipment.

Asia Pacific (APAC) captures nearly half of tire machinery spending and adds the most value through 2035

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 46.20% of the global tire manufacturing machinery market, worth USD 2.25 Billion in 2025. The APAC market reaches USD 3.68 Billion by 2035 at a 5.07% CAGR. China hosts the largest machinery makers, including Mesnac, Safe-Run, Dalian Rubber and Plastics Machinery and Guilin, while India adds capex from JK Tyre, Apollo, CEAT and BKT. Thailand's Rayong cluster gained 3 million tires a year of Continental capacity in May 2026.

North America

North America accounts for 17.40% of 2025 demand, or USD 0.85 Billion. North American spending rises to USD 1.18 Billion by 2035, a 3.37% CAGR. US shipments of 337.3 million tires in 2024 were met by domestic plants and imports, and Pirelli's roughly EUR 1 billion plan to reach about 6 million tires a year in Rome, Georgia by 2033 is the largest announced North American equipment program.

Europe

Europe represents 24.80% of the market, valued at USD 1.21 Billion in 2025, and reaches USD 1.66 Billion by 2035 at 3.27% a year. Europe is home to VMI Group, HF Group and Comerio Ercole, which sold USD 563 million, USD 484 million and USD 86 million respectively in 2024. Local demand is weak: European consumer replacement sales fell 1% in the first half of 2025, and plant closures such as Apollo's Enschede site reduce local buying.

Latin America

Latin America holds 5.60% of 2025 spending, or USD 0.27 Billion. The Latin American market grows at 4.57% to USD 0.43 Billion by 2035. Brazil and Mexico host plants of Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone and Continental, so most demand comes from upgrades and line extensions rather than new sites.

Middle East

The Middle East accounts for 3.90% of 2025 demand, worth USD 0.19 Billion. Middle East spending rises at 5.17% to USD 0.31 Billion by 2035. Saudi Arabia's plan for a domestic tire plant, backed by the Public Investment Fund with Pirelli as partner, is the main source of greenfield demand in the region.

Africa

Africa holds 2.10% of the market, or USD 0.10 Billion in 2025, and posts the fastest regional CAGR at 5.57%, reaching USD 0.18 Billion by 2035. African demand centers on South Africa, where Continental runs a plant in Gqeberha, and on smaller producers in North Africa that buy refurbished and entry-level lines.
