Battery electric mixers are rewriting the economics of concrete delivery as the market climbs toward USD 12 billion

Worldwide sales of Concrete Mixer Trucks generated USD 7.20 Billion in 2025, rising to USD 7.57 Billion in 2026 and USD 11.84 Billion by 2035, a 5.10% CAGR. Volume growth is modest, but battery electric models sell at a large premium to diesel units, which lifts revenue faster than unit counts.

Radial Insights covers new truck-mounted concrete mixers: transit (drum) mixers on rigid truck chassis, volumetric mixers that batch on site and self-loading mixers. Revenue includes the chassis and the mixer body sold as a complete vehicle. The scope excludes stationary batching plants, concrete pumps and pump trucks, trailer-mounted mixers, used vehicles and aftermarket drums and parts. All values are reported in USD billion at current prices.

China drives the electric shift. Sales of new-energy mixers in China reached 18,937 units in 2025, with battery electric models taking 96.85% of them, and climbed to 21,600 units in January to September 2026, up 86% on the prior year. SANY led that segment with 5,401 units, followed by Sinotruk with 4,696 and Shaanxi Automobile with 3,766. Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 41.50% of global revenue in 2025. Africa is the fastest growing region at a 7.00% CAGR.

Battery electric trucks are the fastest growing segment at a 17.60% CAGR, against 1.80% for diesel. Europe and India are following China: Mercedes-Benz Trucks opened eArocs 400 orders in 13 EU markets in March 2026, Scania, Unicon and Liebherr showed a fully electric concrete delivery chain in May 2026, and Putzmeister launched the iONTRON electric mixer in India in August 2026. Self-loading mixers are the fastest product type at 6.80%.

Demand for the Concrete Mixer Trucks market follows cement and ready-mix output. The USGS estimates world cement production at 3.8 billion tonnes in 2025, down from 3.9 billion in 2024, with China lower and India higher. Our forecast assumes that infrastructure spending in India, Southeast Asia, the Gulf and Africa offsets flat volumes in China, North America and Europe.

Self-loading and volumetric mixers outpace transit drum trucks

Transit drum mixers remain the backbone of ready-mix delivery and grow at 4.70%. Self-loading mixers grow at 6.80% because they let small contractors in India, Africa and Southeast Asia produce concrete without a batching plant. Volumetric mixers grow at 6.30%, helped by US and UK demand for on-site batching that cuts waste on small and remote pours, a niche where Cemen Tech is a leading supplier.

Smaller drums grow faster than the largest units

Trucks below 6 cubic meters grow at 5.30%, led by self-loading and urban models. The 6-10 cubic meter class, which includes the 7 cubic meter Schwing Stetter and Qucev electric mixer and the 9 and 10 cubic meter CIFA Energya, grows at 5.10%. Units above 10 cubic meters grow at 4.60% because axle weight limits make large electric mixers harder to certify.

Battery electric trucks displace diesel units

Diesel mixers grow at only 1.80% as China moves most new mixer sales to electric. Battery electric trucks grow at 17.60%, supported by short, predictable routes between batching plant and site and by the ability to run the drum on battery power. Natural gas and other fuels grow at 3.90%, mainly in China and parts of Europe.

Rental and contractor fleets grow faster than ready-mix producers

Ready-mix concrete producers own most mixers and grow at 4.90%. Construction contractors grow at 5.40% as more large sites operate their own fleets, and equipment rental companies grow at 5.60% as they offer electric mixers on lease to producers testing the technology.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

China turned the mixer into an electric vehicle category

CleanTechnica reported in May 2026 that China's new-energy mixer sales rose from 1,309 units in 2021 to 8,036 in 2024, when they took a 43.8% share. In the first quarter of 2026, 5,099 of 5,125 new-energy mixer sales were battery electric. Battery swapping and short urban routes make the economics work even before subsidies.

European OEMs move from prototypes to series production

Renault Trucks and Schwing Stetter showed the E-Tech C 10x4, a five-axle electric mixer carrying up to 10 cubic meters, at Bauma in April 2025. In March 2026 Mercedes-Benz opened orders for the eArocs 400, which has 414 kWh of LFP batteries and a mixer range of up to 200 km, with series production at Woerth from the third quarter of 2026.

Body builders electrify the drum

Mixer body makers are fitting electric drum drives so the drum can run without the engine. CIFA, part of Zoomlion, released the Energya electric truck mixer in November 2025, and Liebherr-Mischtechnik supplied the drum for the Scania and Unicon project shown in May 2026, where Unicon ordered ten more trucks.

India becomes the next electric mixer market

Schwing Stetter India and Qucev Technologies unveiled India's first electric transit mixer at EXCON in December 2025, with a 192.5 kWh BYD Blade pack. Putzmeister followed in August 2026 with the iONTRON, which has a 282 kWh battery and up to 200 km of range.

Restraints and Challenges

Cement and ready-mix volumes are flat in major markets

The USGS estimates world cement output fell from 3.9 billion tonnes in 2024 to 3.8 billion tonnes in 2025, with China down from 1.8 to 1.7 billion tonnes, and notes that US cement shipments fell 2.1% in the first nine months of 2025 (USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026). The NRMCA reported US ready-mix output down about 3.4% year to date in August 2025. Fewer cubic meters delivered means fewer replacement trucks.

Battery weight cuts payload under axle rules

US Interstate rules limit gross vehicle weight to 80,000 lb, with 20,000 lb on a single axle and 34,000 lb on a tandem (FHWA). Batteries of 300-400 kWh can reduce the concrete an electric mixer is allowed to carry. In the EU, a proposal to give zero-emission trucks extra weight allowance is still in trilogue talks that began in December 2025.

Compliance costs rise for diesel fleets

EU heavy-duty CO2 rules require fleet emission cuts of 45% by 2030, 65% by 2035 and 90% by 2040, and bring vocational vehicles such as mixers into the targets from 2035 (European Commission). Producers must choose between costly electric trucks and diesel trucks that may lose value faster.

Driver shortages limit fleet growth

Mixer drivers need commercial licenses and site skills. An NRMCA survey found that 87% of US producers had driver vacancies and 47% had turned away orders, with driver turnover of 33.4%. A lack of drivers caps how many new trucks producers can put on the road.

Growth Drivers

Electric mixers raise the value of each truck

A battery electric mixer costs much more than a diesel truck with the same drum, so electrification lifts revenue even where unit sales are flat. China's new-energy mixer sales grew at a 95% compound rate from 2021 to 2025, reaching 18,937 units, and the first nine months of 2026 brought 21,600 units, already above the full-year 2025 total. SANY, Sinotruk, Shaanxi Automobile, Foton and XCMG all sell electric mixers, and Mercedes-Benz plans about 150 eArocs 400 units a year in a first series. Higher average prices from this shift account for roughly +1.5% of annual market growth through 2035, the largest single driver in our model.

Infrastructure and urban building in emerging markets

India's cement output rose from 440 million tonnes in 2024 to about 470 million tonnes in 2025, according to the USGS, and the country is building highways, metro lines and housing at scale. Schwing Stetter, Putzmeister and Chinese makers are expanding their Indian mixer ranges, including electric models launched in December 2025 and August 2026. Gulf states and African economies such as Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya are also adding ready-mix capacity. We estimate these emerging markets add about 1.0 percentage point to yearly growth, which is why Africa and the Middle East grow faster than the global average.

Emissions rules force fleet renewal

Ready-mix producers in Europe face rising CO2 targets for heavy trucks and growing low-emission zones in cities. Zero-emission vocational trucks count toward manufacturer compliance from 2030, which encourages truck makers to price electric mixers aggressively. Large producers such as Cemex and Unicon have already put electric mixers into service, and Unicon followed its May 2026 project with an order for ten more trucks. Fleet renewal under these rules contributes close to 0.6% of annual growth, rising after 2030 as targets tighten.

Opportunities

Electric drum drives and retrofit kits

Electric drum drives let the drum turn without the engine, cutting fuel and noise on diesel trucks too. Body makers such as Liebherr, CIFA and Schwing Stetter can sell e-drum bodies on new chassis and as retrofits to existing fleets.

Self-loading mixers for first-time buyers

Self-loading mixers grow at 6.80% a year in our forecast. Contractors in India, Africa and Southeast Asia that lack access to batching plants are a large untapped market for compact, low-cost machines.

Chinese chassis makers lead on volume while European body builders lead on electric drum technology

The Concrete Mixer Trucks market brings together two groups: truck chassis makers and mixer body builders. In China a few groups sell complete trucks, while in Europe and North America producers often buy a chassis from one company and a drum from another. Competition is shifting from drum quality and dealer service toward battery capacity, charging speed and total cost of ownership.

Chinese volume leaders

SANY Heavy Industry led China's new-energy mixer sales in January to September 2026 with 5,401 units, a 25.0% share of that segment, and owns Putzmeister. Sinotruk sold 4,696 units and Shaanxi Automobile Group 3,766 in the same period, while Beiqi Foton Motor and XCMG each sold about 1,800. These companies combine chassis, battery packs and mixer bodies in one product and are starting to export.

European and Indian body builders

Liebherr-Mischtechnik is known for its truck mixer drums and supplied the electric drum for the Scania and Unicon project. Schwing Stetter builds transit mixers in Germany and India and partnered with Renault Trucks on the E-Tech C 10x4 and with Qucev on India's first electric mixer. CIFA, owned by Zoomlion, sells the Energya range. Putzmeister brought the iONTRON to India in August 2026.

Truck chassis suppliers

Mercedes-Benz Trucks, part of Daimler Truck, sells the Arocs and the electric eArocs 400 for mixer use. Scania, Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks all offer electric chassis suitable for mixers, and Volvo's FMX Electric already serves Cemex in Berlin.

North American specialists

McNeilus, part of Oshkosh Corporation, is a leading US maker of rear- and front-discharge mixers. Cemen Tech is a leading volumetric mixer supplier. US producers have been slower to electrify because of heavier trucks, longer routes and weight limits.

Primary Interview Insights

Electrification

Why are producers in China buying electric mixers so quickly?

Producers we spoke with said short, fixed routes between plant and site make battery range a small issue. Lower energy and maintenance costs pay back the higher price within a few years at high utilization.

Payload

How does battery weight affect electric mixers in the US and Europe?

Fleet managers said heavy batteries reduce the concrete they can legally carry, which raises cost per cubic meter. They want clarity on extra weight allowances for zero-emission trucks before ordering in volume.

Body design

What do buyers want from mixer body suppliers?

Buyers told us electric drum drives are now a key request because they cut fuel use and noise during unloading. They also want drum control systems that work with both diesel and electric chassis.

Demand

How is weaker construction affecting purchases?

Suppliers said lower ready-mix volumes in China, the US and Europe have stretched replacement cycles. Orders hold up better where producers need to meet emissions rules or win green building contracts.

Emerging markets

Where do suppliers see new buyers?

Manufacturers pointed to India, the Gulf and Africa, where new ready-mix plants and road programs add fleets. Self-loading mixers sell well to contractors that lack nearby batching plants.
