Replacement demand from a fast-growing EV fleet is set to more than triple electric vehicle tire revenue by 2035

Radial Insights sizes the global Electric Vehicle Tires market at USD 29.85 Billion in 2025, rising to USD 33.55 Billion in 2026 and USD 96.07 Billion by 2035, a 12.40% CAGR. That pace is several times faster than the overall passenger tire business, because every new battery car added to the road becomes a replacement customer within two to four years.

Our scope covers new and replacement tires designed, homologated or marketed for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), across passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, buses and trucks. Revenue is counted at manufacturer selling price for OEM fitments and at sell-in value for replacement channels. We exclude two-wheeler and three-wheeler tires, retreads, inner tubes, wheels and tire pressure sensors, which Radial Insights tracks in separate reports.

The demand base is large and still widening. The International Energy Agency counted more than 17 million electric cars sold worldwide in 2024, above 20% of all new cars, and projected sales above 20 million in 2025. China alone sold 16.49 million new energy vehicles in 2025, up 28.2%, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Each of those vehicles leaves the factory on four or five tires and, because EVs are heavier and deliver torque instantly, tends to need its first replacement set sooner than a comparable petrol car.

Electric buses and trucks are the fastest-growing vehicle segment at a 15.90% CAGR, followed by electric light commercial vehicles at 14.60%. By channel, replacement grows at 14.20% against 9.70% for OEM supply. Latin America is the fastest-growing region at a 16.80% CAGR from a small base. Asia Pacific (APAC) keeps the largest share, at 54.00% in 2025.

Tire makers now treat EV fitments as a range and noise problem as much as a grip problem. Low rolling resistance compounds, high load index casings and foam liners that cut cabin noise are standard features of the latest ranges from Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental and Hankook, and these features carry a price premium that lifts average revenue per tire.

Battery electric passenger cars lead volume, but electric buses and trucks grow fastest

Battery electric passenger cars form the core of demand and grow at a 13.10% CAGR, tracking the expansion of the global BEV parc. Electric buses and trucks grow faster, at 15.90%, because city bus electrification in China, Europe and Latin America and the first large orders for battery trucks bring very high tire wear per vehicle. Electric light commercial vehicles follow at 14.60% as parcel fleets electrify vans. Plug-in hybrid passenger cars grow at only 9.80% because they are lighter than BEVs, share many fitments with combustion models and face policy uncertainty in several European markets.

All-terrain and highway-terrain designs outgrow summer patterns

Summer tires remain the largest tread type in Europe and premium Asian markets and grow at 11.20%. All-season tires grow at 12.90% on the back of North American demand and OE approvals such as Ford's selection of Continental AllSeasonContact for its Explorer and Capri electric SUVs. All-terrain and highway-terrain tires grow fastest at 15.30% as electric pickups and large SUVs arrive; Hankook's iON HT, launched in June 2025 for electric light-duty trucks, is an example. Winter tires grow at 10.60%, held back by mild winters and the spread of all-weather fitments.

Rims of 20 inches and above take share from smaller sizes

EV crossovers ride on large wheels to package batteries and brakes, so 20-inch and larger tires grow at a 14.80% CAGR and 18 to 19 inch sizes at 12.30%. Sizes up to 17 inches grow at only 8.40%, mostly on compact Chinese and Indian city EVs. Michelin reported in February 2026 that 18-inch and larger tires now make up 68% of its automotive tire sales, a sign of how fast the mix is moving.

Replacement overtakes OEM as the growth engine

OEM fitment grows at 9.70%, in line with new EV production. Replacement grows at 14.20% because the installed EV fleet compounds every year and heavier vehicles wear tread faster. Retailers and fleet operators also report that EV drivers often replace with the same OE-marked tire to protect range, which keeps replacement prices high.

Acoustic foam liners grow fastest as cabins get quieter

Low rolling resistance standard tires remain the largest technology group and grow at 10.90%. Acoustic foam lined tires grow at 14.90% because, without engine noise, road roar dominates the EV cabin, and premium carmakers specify foam liners on many OE fitments. Self-sealing tires grow at 13.40% as spare-free EV platforms rely on sealant layers to give drivers get-home capability.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Tire makers relaunch flagship lines with EV range claims

Instead of separate niche EV brands, leaders now build range into mainstream lines. In April 2026 Michelin launched the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy, claiming the Primacy 5 Energy can extend EV range by up to 10%, about 70 km, and shorten braking distances by up to 8%. In November 2025 Bridgestone announced the Potenza Sport EVO with ENLITEN technology, with up to 6% lower rolling resistance and 139 sizes from 17 to 23 inches, 92 of them available from January 2026.

OE exclusivity deals lock in replacement volume

Winning the factory fitment on a high-volume EV gives a tire maker years of replacement sales. In February 2025 Ford chose Continental as exclusive tire supplier for the Explorer and Capri electric SUVs, with EcoContact 6 Q tires in 19 to 21 inch sizes. Continental states that it supplies OE tires to the world's top 10 fully electric vehicle makers.

Motorsport branding moves into consumer EV tires

Hankook, exclusive supplier to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship since the 2022/23 season, launched a limited iON evo Formula E Edition for the Tesla Model Y Performance in April 2025, first in South Korea and then in Germany from May. The move shows how tire makers use racing credentials to justify premium pricing in the EV replacement market.

Wear regulation becomes a design target

In June 2026 the UNECE WP.29 forum adopted binding tire abrasion limits for C1 passenger car tires, which apply to new tires from 30 June 2028, with stricter limits planned from 2033. UNECE estimates the limits could cut tire abrasion by more than 10%. Because EVs are heavier, compound and tread designs for EV tires are now tuned for abrasion as well as rolling resistance.

Restraints and Challenges

Uneven EV adoption outside China

The International Energy Agency notes that European electric car sales stagnated in 2024 as subsidies were withdrawn, while China sold more than 11 million electric cars, almost half of its car market. Tire makers with plants built for Western EV growth face lower utilization when policy support fades.

Price pressure from Asian challengers

Chinese producers such as ZC Rubber, Linglong and Sailun supply domestic EV makers at aggressive prices and now export EV fitments. This compresses margins for premium brands, especially in the replacement channel where drivers compare price per kilometre of tread life.

Weaker overall tire volumes

Michelin reported in February 2026 that its automotive segment volumes fell 1.9% in 2025 and group volumes fell 4.7%. Soft combustion car demand and dealer destocking can delay capacity investment for new EV lines even while EV demand grows.

Compliance cost from abrasion and labeling rules

The UNECE abrasion limits from June 2028, together with existing EU labels for rolling resistance, wet grip and noise, add testing costs. Heavy EVs make it harder to meet all targets at once, and engineering trade-offs between range, grip and wear raise development spending per size.

Growth Drivers

A compounding EV fleet creates a replacement market that grows every year

Every EV sold today becomes a replacement tire customer in the next two to four years. The IEA counted more than 17 million electric cars sold worldwide in 2024 and expected more than 20 million in 2025, more than one in four new cars. China's new energy vehicle sales reached 16.49 million units in 2025 according to CAAM, out of 34.40 million total vehicle sales, and the OICA reported Chinese NEV output of 16.626 million units, up 29%. With each car fitted with four or five tires at the factory and needing a full set every 40,000 to 60,000 km, the installed base grows faster than new sales. Radial Insights estimates this fleet effect alone contributes about +4.1% of annual growth to the Electric Vehicle Tires market through 2035, with the effect strongest in APAC and Latin America where EV parcs are youngest.

Heavier vehicles and instant torque wear tread faster

Battery packs make EVs typically 15% to 30% heavier than equivalent combustion models, and electric motors deliver full torque from standstill. Both raise tread wear and push replacement forward. Tire makers answer with high load index (HL and XL) casings and harder-wearing compounds: Hankook rates its iON HT light truck tire for up to 80,000 miles and offers it in five sizes from 18 to 22 inches, and Bridgestone claims about 15% more mileage, roughly 6,000 km, from the Potenza Sport EVO compared with its predecessor. Even with these gains, Radial Insights' interviews with fleet buyers indicate EV replacement intervals remain shorter than for comparable combustion cars. We estimate faster wear adds roughly 2.6 percentage points to the market's annual growth rate, mainly through the replacement channel.

Large wheels and EV-specific homologation lift revenue per tire

EV crossovers and sedans run on 19 to 22 inch wheels with low profiles, high load ratings, foam liners and low rolling resistance compounds, and each of these features adds to unit price. Michelin's February 2026 results showed 18-inch and larger tires at 68% of its automotive sales. Carmakers also issue OE marks, such as the T0 to T2 or HL designations, which drivers often keep at replacement. Continental's EcoContact 6 Q for Ford's electric SUVs, for instance, is approved in six sizes from 235/55 R19 to 255/40 R21, all XL rated. Radial Insights credits this mix shift with about +1.4% of yearly market growth, independent of unit volume.

Opportunities

Electric commercial fleets need high-load, long-wear casings

Electric buses, vans and battery trucks carry heavy loads on fixed routes, which makes tire cost per kilometre a key purchase metric. Suppliers that pair EV truck and bus tires with fleet management and retreading services can capture recurring revenue in a segment growing at 15.90% a year.

Emerging-market EV booms in Latin America and South Asia

Latin America grows from USD 0.96 Billion in 2025 to USD 4.51 Billion by 2035, and India's car production reached 6.49 million vehicles in 2025, according to OICA. Apollo Tyres began selling its EV-ready Aspire 5 UHP tire in India in July 2025, made at its Andhra Pradesh plant. Local production of EV sizes gives early movers a price and lead time edge over imports.

Asia Pacific holds more than half of EV tire revenue, while Latin America grows fastest

Regional demand for electric vehicle tires follows the size and age of each EV fleet. Mature markets add mostly replacement demand, while younger markets still grow mainly through OEM fitment.

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) accounts for 54.00% of the Electric Vehicle Tires market in 2025, worth USD 16.12 Billion, and reaches USD 48.61 Billion by 2035 at an 11.67% CAGR. China is the anchor: CAAM reported 16.49 million new energy vehicle sales in 2025, and Chinese tire makers such as ZC Rubber, Linglong and Sailun supply much of that OE demand. South Korea and Japan add premium volume through Hankook, Kumho, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Sumitomo Rubber and Toyo.

North America

North America holds 15.50% of 2025 revenue, or USD 4.63 Billion, rising to USD 16.56 Billion in 2035 at a 13.60% CAGR. The IEA reports that US electric car sales grew about 10% in 2024 to more than one in ten new cars. Demand skews to all-season tires and to large-rim crossover and pickup fitments, such as the 18 to 22 inch sizes of Hankook's iON HT, launched in Nashville in June 2025.

Europe

Europe represents 22.50% of the market in 2025, worth USD 6.72 Billion, and grows at an 11.70% CAGR to USD 20.31 Billion by 2035. Electric cars held about 20% of European sales in 2024 according to the IEA, and Europe hosts the R&D centers of Michelin, Continental, Pirelli and Nokian. Bridgestone develops and produces the Potenza Sport EVO in Europe, and the UNECE abrasion limits from June 2028 will shape compound design for the region.

Latin America

Latin America has a 3.20% share in 2025, worth USD 0.96 Billion, and is the fastest-growing region at a 16.80% CAGR, reaching USD 4.51 Billion by 2035. Growth comes from Brazil and Mexico, where Chinese EV brands expanded sales in 2025, and from electric bus fleets in cities such as Bogota and Santiago.

Middle East

The Middle East accounts for 3.00% of 2025 revenue, or USD 0.90 Billion, growing at a 15.20% CAGR to USD 3.69 Billion in 2035. High ambient temperatures make heat-resistant compounds and high load index EV tires important for buyers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Africa

Africa holds 1.80% of the 2025 market, worth USD 0.54 Billion, and grows at a 16.10% CAGR to USD 2.39 Billion by 2035. Early demand is concentrated in South Africa, Morocco and Egypt, mostly through imported EVs and replacement tires sold by regional distributors.

Global majors hold the OE fitments, while Chinese producers compete hard on price

The Electric Vehicle Tires market is moderately concentrated. Five global groups win most premium OE fitments, a second tier of Asian brands competes on value and fast size coverage, and Chinese producers dominate domestic EV supply. OE approvals matter more here than in conventional tires because drivers often replace with the same marked tire.

Global premium leaders

Michelin uses its Primacy and Pilot Sport lines, now with Energy variants launched in April 2026, to target range-sensitive buyers, and reports a mix shift toward 18-inch and larger tires. Bridgestone builds EV performance into mainstream lines through its ENLITEN technology, as seen in the Potenza Sport EVO. Continental supplies OE tires to the top 10 fully electric vehicle makers and holds exclusive fitment on Ford's Explorer and Capri EVs. Goodyear sells its ElectricDrive range for EVs in North America, and Pirelli focuses on premium and prestige electric sedans and SUVs with its Elect-marked tires.

Asian challengers with EV-first ranges

Hankook Tire & Technology was among the first to build a dedicated EV brand, iON, and extended it to electric pickups with the iON HT in June 2025 and to the Tesla Model Y Performance with a Formula E edition in April 2025. Kumho Tire, Yokohama Rubber, Sumitomo Rubber Industries and Toyo Tire compete for Japanese, Korean and Chinese OE programs. Apollo Tyres began selling its EV-ready Aspire 5 UHP tire in India in July 2025 and plans wider distribution in Europe and Asia.

Chinese volume producers

ZC Rubber, Linglong Tire and Giti Tire supply large shares of OE tires to Chinese EV makers and have expanded exports of EV sizes. Their scale in China, where CAAM recorded 16.49 million NEV sales in 2025, gives them low unit costs and fast homologation cycles.

Specialists in winter and niche fitments

Nokian Tyres focuses on winter and all-weather tires for Nordic and North American EV drivers, where cold weather already cuts battery range. Specialists like this compete on safety ratings and local distribution rather than OE scale.
