Electric Rickshaws and Replacement Demand Lift Three-Wheeler Tire Sales Past USD 2 Billion by 2035

Global spending on three-wheeler tires stood at USD 1.42 Billion in 2025 and is set to rise to USD 1.49 Billion in 2026 and USD 2.34 Billion by 2035, a 5.10% CAGR. Radial Insights built this estimate bottom up from the world three-wheeler fleet, new-vehicle output and the tire replacement cycle of each vehicle class.

The scope covers new and replacement tires fitted to passenger auto-rickshaws, cargo three-wheelers, low-speed e-rickshaws and L5 electric three-wheelers, plus the tuk-tuks used across Egypt, Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. Inner tubes and flaps sold separately, retread rubber and tires for three-wheeled motorcycles, trikes and quadricycles such as the Bajaj Qute are excluded. Values are at manufacturer selling prices, so dealer margins and fitting charges fall outside the totals.

About 4.5 million three-wheelers were sold worldwide in 2025 according to IEA data, and more than 1.2 million of them were electric. Each vehicle carries three tires, so new vehicles alone created roughly 13.5 million original-equipment tires. The larger pool is replacement demand: Bangladesh alone runs an estimated 6 million battery rickshaws and Egypt about 5 million tuk-tuks, and most of these vehicles change tires every 12 to 18 months.

Tires for battery electric three-wheelers form the fastest segment at a 9.80% CAGR, because India's e-3W share reached 61% of retail sales in FY2026 and heavier battery packs raise load ratings and wear. Africa is the fastest region at a 6.20% CAGR, driven by Indian exports that jumped 42.7% in calendar 2025.

The three-wheeler tires market remains concentrated among Indian makers such as MRF, TVS Srichakra, CEAT, JK Tyre and Ralco, which supply both domestic fleets and export markets in more than 170 countries reached by Indian tire shipments.

Radial Tubeless Construction Grows at 9.10% as OEMs Specify It on New E-3Ws

Bias tube-type tires still equip most of the running fleet because they cost less and can be patched at any roadside shop. Their growth slows to 2.60% a year. Radial tubeless tires grow at 9.10% because premium electric models now ship with them; Montra Electric's Super Auto, launched in October 2025 at Rs 3,79,500, comes on radial tubeless tires. Bias tubeless sits in between at 6.40% as fleet owners seek fewer punctures without paying radial prices.

12 Inch and Above Rims Expand at 7.30% With the E-Rickshaw Fleet

The 4.00-8 size remains the volume leader for passenger autos, but it grows at only 3.90%. Cargo autos use 4.50-10 tires, which grow at 5.20%. Low-speed e-rickshaws typically run 3.75-12 or 90/90-12 tires, and that larger group grows at 7.30% as e-rickshaw registrations rise in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Cargo Three-Wheelers Lead Vehicle Types at 6.10%

Cargo three-wheelers grow fastest because e-commerce and parcel fleets add vehicles and run longer daily distances, which shortens tire life. Low-speed e-rickshaws follow at 5.70%; Bajaj Auto entered the segment with its Riki models in November 2025. Passenger auto-rickshaws grow at 4.30% as city permit caps limit fleet growth in many Indian states.

Battery Electric Propulsion Drives a 9.80% Rate

Tires for battery electric three-wheelers grow at 9.80% because the e-3W share keeps rising and battery weight raises load and wear. CNG and LPG tires grow at 2.90% as buyers shift to electric, and petrol and diesel tires slow to 1.40% because these vehicles now serve mainly export markets and rural routes.

Replacement Channel Grows at 5.30%, Ahead of OE at 4.40%

Replacement tires already account for most volume because three-wheelers run 120 to 200 km a day in commercial service. That channel grows at 5.30% as the fleet ages and expands. Original-equipment demand grows at 4.40%, tracking new-vehicle output in India, China, Egypt and Türkiye.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Electric Three-Wheelers Take a Majority Share in India

Electric models reached 797,729 retail units in India in calendar 2025, a 60% share of roughly 1.30 million three-wheelers, and 830,819 units in FY2026, a 61% share. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility became the first Indian OEM to pass 300,000 cumulative EV sales in November 2025, adding the last 100,000 within 12 months. Higher curb weight and instant torque from electric drive change the load index and tread compound that buyers specify.

Tire Makers Add Two- and Three-Wheeler Capacity

TVS Srichakra, which sells under the Eurogrip brand, approved up to Rs 2.1 billion in February 2026 to raise two- and three-wheeler tire output at Rudrapur by 40% to 45%. In October 2026 it approved a further Rs 49.2 crore for its Madurai and Rudrapur plants. CEAT announced Rs 1,205 crore in July 2026 to lift two-wheeler tire capacity about 66% by FY31, and that capacity shares bias and radial lines that also serve small three-wheeler sizes.

Exports Become a Second Growth Engine

India exported a record 4.26 lakh three-wheelers in calendar 2025, up 42.7%. Between April and August 2026 it shipped 259,593 units, and Bajaj Auto accounted for 62% of them. Every exported vehicle leaves with three original tires and creates replacement demand in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, where Indian tire brands follow the vehicles through dealer networks.

Governments Formalize Informal Three-Wheeler Fleets

Egypt began voluntary tuk-tuk swaps for the four-wheel Qute in Giza and north Cairo in late 2025, with nearly 5 million tuk-tuks estimated nationwide. Bangladesh gazetted e-rickshaw rules in October 2026 that make registration mandatory in city corporations and cap vehicle life at 12 years. The Philippines banned e-trikes from major Metro Manila roads from January 2026. These rules reduce unregulated vehicles in some cities but push owners toward registered models that use certified tires.

Restraints and Challenges

Natural Rubber Prices Hit Records

Kerala RSS-4 natural rubber reached a record Rs 284.50 per kg on 13 October 2026, above the international benchmark, after averaging Rs 183.74 per kg in December 2025. Three-wheeler tires are rubber-heavy bias products with thin margins, so a 55% rise in less than a year squeezes makers that cannot pass costs to price-sensitive fleet owners. The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries reported that 2025 global output rose only 1.4% to about 14.9 million tonnes, which leaves little supply buffer.

Subsidy Cuts Slow Some Electric Purchases

India's PM E-DRIVE support for L5 electric three-wheelers closed in December 2025 once its target was met. The March 2026 revision kept incentives for e-rickshaws and e-carts until March 2028 but halved the rate to Rs 2,500 per kWh, capped at Rs 12,500. Details are on the Ministry of Heavy Industries PM E-DRIVE page. Lower subsidies can delay fleet purchases and the original-equipment tire orders tied to them.

Low-Price Unbranded Tires Compete in Replacement

Indicative retail prices for a 4.00-8 three-wheeler tire range from about Rs 1,180 to Rs 2,314 in India. Small regional producers and imports sell below that range in Bangladesh, Nepal and parts of Africa, which limits price increases for branded makers and erodes margins.

Regulatory Bans Shrink Fleets in Some Cities

Road bans in Metro Manila from January 2026, the Egyptian replacement program and the Bangladeshi 12-year vehicle life cap could reduce the number of three-wheelers operating in specific cities. Fewer vehicles in a city means fewer replacement tires there, even if national demand keeps rising.

Growth Drivers

Electric Three-Wheeler Adoption in India

India accounted for 67% of global electric three-wheeler sales in 2025, and its e-3W retail volume rose 19% to 830,819 units in FY2026. Electric models weigh more than CNG autos because of battery packs of 7 to 10 kWh or more; Piaggio's Apé E-City Ultra, launched in July 2025, carries a 10.2 kWh LFP pack and a 236 km rated range. Heavier vehicles running longer daily routes wear tires faster and need higher ply ratings, which raises both volume and value per vehicle. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility led calendar 2025 with 95,907 e-3W units, followed by Bajaj at 78,546 and YC Electric at 41,228. Radial Insights estimates this driver adds about +1.4% to annual market growth across the forecast period.

Record Domestic Sales and Exports From India

SIAM data show Indian domestic three-wheeler sales of 741,420 units in FY2025 and 8.36 lakh units in FY2026, a 12.8% gain and a seven-year peak. Exports reached 4.26 lakh units in calendar 2025. In April 2026 alone the industry produced 1,08,461 three-wheelers and exported 50,655. Bajaj Auto is the largest exporter, and Egypt, Nigeria and Latin American markets absorb most of its shipments. Every new vehicle adds three original tires and, over a typical life of 8 to 10 years, another 15 to 25 replacement tires. Our model credits this volume effect with roughly one percentage point of the 5.10% CAGR.

Large Informal Fleets in South Asia and Africa

Bangladesh's road transport authority estimates more than 6 million battery rickshaws on the road, about 1 to 1.2 million of them in Dhaka. Egypt has nearly 5 million tuk-tuks, and three-wheelers serve as core public transport in Nigeria, Kenya, Peru and Sri Lanka. These vehicles operate long hours on rough roads, and owners replace tires once or twice a year. Formal registration rules such as Bangladesh's October 2026 gazette push owners toward branded, certified tires, which lifts average selling prices. This driver contributes close to +0.9% of yearly growth in our base case.

Opportunities

Purpose-Built Tires for Electric Three-Wheelers

Few makers sell compounds designed for electric three-wheelers today, even though e-3Ws now outsell CNG models in India. Low rolling resistance treads that extend range by a few kilometers, higher load indexes and tubeless designs can command premium prices from fleet operators and OEMs such as Montra, Euler and Bajaj.

Export Distribution in Africa and Latin America

Indian tire exports reached Rs 25,051 crore in FY2025, up 9%, to more than 170 countries. Building dealer and fleet-service networks in Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Peru gives tire makers access to replacement demand from millions of Indian-built three-wheelers already in service.

Asia Pacific Holds More Than Two-Thirds of Three-Wheeler Tire Demand While Africa Grows Fastest

Demand follows the three-wheeler fleet, which is concentrated in South Asia and spreading through exports to Africa and Latin America.

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds a 68.40% share, worth USD 971.3 Million in 2025, and should reach USD 1,582.1 Million by 2035 at a 5.00% CAGR. India sold about 1.30 million three-wheelers in calendar 2025, and the APAC region also includes China, which sold about 290,000 electric three-wheelers, plus Bangladesh with more than 6 million battery rickshaws.

Africa

Africa accounts for a 10.20% share, or USD 144.8 Million in 2025, and grows at 6.20% a year to USD 264.3 Million by 2035. Egypt's nearly 5 million tuk-tuks and fast-growing fleets in Nigeria and Kenya create steady replacement demand in Africa, much of it served by Indian brands.

Latin America

Latin America represents an 8.60% share, valued at USD 122.1 Million in 2025, and should reach USD 200.8 Million by 2035 at a 5.10% CAGR. Peru, Colombia and Mexico use three-wheelers as mototaxis, and Bajaj's export growth of 48% in April to August 2026 keeps new vehicles flowing into Latin America.

Middle East

The Middle East holds a 7.40% share, USD 105.1 Million in 2025, rising to USD 181.2 Million by 2035 at 5.60% a year. Iraq, Yemen and Gulf logistics hubs use cargo three-wheelers, and Türkiye sold about 48,000 electric three-wheelers in 2025, which supports Middle East demand for larger rim sizes.

Europe

Europe takes a 3.30% share, USD 46.9 Million in 2025, and reaches USD 65.5 Million by 2035 at a 3.40% CAGR. Piaggio's Apé range and electric cargo three-wheelers for urban delivery in Italy and Germany support small but stable European demand.

North America

North America holds a 2.10% share, or USD 29.8 Million in 2025, reaching USD 40.9 Million by 2035 at 3.20% a year. North American demand comes mainly from utility and campus vehicles and from imported electric cargo three-wheelers used in last-mile pilots.

Indian Tire Makers Control Most Three-Wheeler Tire Supply

The three-wheeler tires market is led by Indian manufacturers that serve the world's largest fleet at home and follow Indian vehicle exports abroad. Competition rests on price per kilometer, dealer reach in small towns and approval on OEM platforms.

Large Diversified Indian Brands

MRF sells the TriplePlus N4 in the 4.00-8 size and the Automiler range for 4.50-10 cargo autos, backed by India's widest tire dealer network. CEAT offers the Buland and Fleet Master lines and earlier developed the Milaze 90/90-12 tire for Mahindra electric three-wheelers. JK Tyre competes with its Jumbo Miles range, and Apollo Tyres sells a tire marketed for CNG three-wheelers. These four brands win fleet contracts on mileage guarantees and nationwide service.

Two- and Three-Wheeler Specialists

TVS Srichakra, through its Eurogrip brand with the Street King and Badshah lines, focuses on two- and three-wheelers and is adding 40% to 45% capacity at Rudrapur. Ralson's Ralco brand offers a broad RL-3001 to RL-3011 rickshaw range, and Metro Tyres describes itself as one of India's largest three-wheeler tire makers, with dedicated e-rickshaw sizes such as 3.75-12 and 3.25-14.

Value and Regional Producers

VK Tyre sells the Sarthi 4.00-8 tire, and Amstrong supplies 4.00-12 sizes, mostly through online and regional channels. Birla Tyres relaunched its brand in June 2025 under new owners led by Himadri Speciality Chemical and Dalmia Refractories, which could bring renewed attention to small-vehicle sizes.

International Suppliers and OEM Buyers

Thailand's Deestone sells D401 and D402 tires in 4.00-8, 4.00-10 and 4.00-12 sizes into Asian and European markets. On the demand side, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility and Piaggio Vehicles shape specifications through original-equipment approvals, and their push into electric models favors suppliers with tubeless and higher load-rated designs.
