LTPS and OLED Upgrades Lift Automotive Display Value Faster Than Vehicle Output

Radial Insights sizes the automotive display market at USD 19.85 Billion in 2025, moving to USD 21.08 Billion in 2026 and USD 36.22 Billion by 2035, which equals a 6.20% CAGR across 2025-2035.

The 2025 base of USD 19.85 Billion covers display panels and finished display modules, including cover glass, optical bonding, backlight and driver electronics, fitted as instrument clusters, center stack screens, passenger and rear-seat displays, pillar-to-pillar panels and control panels in cars, vans and trucks. Head-up display projection units, standalone infotainment computers and aftermarket tablets are excluded; they are tracked in separate Radial Insights studies.

Volume growth is modest. Omdia counted 232 million automotive display panels shipped in 2024, up 6.3%, and 120.96 million in the first half of 2025, up 5.1%. Value grows faster because buyers are trading up: Omdia expects automotive display revenue of USD 13.6 billion at the panel level in 2025, with LTPS and OLED together passing 50% of revenue for the first time. OICA reported 96.4 million vehicles built worldwide in 2025, so panel count per vehicle is now well above two.

Pillar-to-pillar and panoramic displays are the fastest-growing application at an estimated 15.60% CAGR, led by launches such as BMW's Panoramic iDrive in the Neue Klasse iX3. Asia Pacific (APAC) is the largest region with a 55.40% share and also the fastest at 6.70% a year, as Chinese panel makers held more than 53% of 2024 shipments.

Price pressure, driver distraction rules and a return of physical buttons temper the outlook, yet the automotive display market should still add about USD 16.37 Billion in value over the decade.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

LTPS and OLED Pass Half of Revenue

Omdia said in July 2025 that LTPS held 45% and OLED 9% of automotive display revenue in 2025, together passing 50% for the first time, while a-Si fell to 44%. It expects LTPS above 50% by 2028 and OLED above 20% in 2028. Panel makers are shifting fab capacity toward these technologies, which carry higher prices per square inch.

Panoramic Displays Replace Separate Screens

BMW unveiled Panoramic iDrive with the iX3 in September 2025, projecting information onto a black band from A-pillar to A-pillar, alongside a 17.9-inch Central Display built in Debrecen, Hungary. At CES 2026 in January, LG Display, Samsung Display, Tianma and BOE all showed panoramic or pillar-to-pillar concepts, signaling that the design is moving into series programs.

Chinese Panel Makers Gain Share

Omdia reported in March 2025 that Chinese makers held more than 53% of 2024 automotive display shipments. BOE led with 17.6% and 40.9 million units, up 16%, and Tianma followed with 15.9% and 36.9 million units, up 25%. TCL CSOT more than doubled its shipments. Japanese and Korean suppliers are moving toward OLED and premium LTPS to defend value.

Physical Buttons Return Next to Screens

Euro NCAP announced in November 2025 that its 2026 protocols will check the availability of physical buttons for commonly used functions. Omdia already saw control-panel displays fall 4.1% in the first half of 2025. Automakers are keeping large main screens but adding hard keys for climate, hazard lights and wipers.

Restraints and Challenges

Driver Distraction Rules Limit Screen Use

The NHTSA visual-manual driver distraction guidelines ask that in-vehicle tasks keep mean off-road glances at 2.0 seconds or less, with no more than 15% of glances above 2.0 seconds. Large touch-only interfaces struggle to meet these limits, which pushes automakers to add voice control and buttons rather than more screen area.

Euro NCAP Scoring Rewards Physical Controls

The Euro NCAP 2026 protocol changes assess physical buttons for common functions. Automakers chasing five-star ratings in Europe are pulling some functions off secondary screens, which slows growth in control-panel displays.

Panel Price Erosion

Omdia noted OLED panel prices down about 15% to 20% versus two years earlier, and Chinese capacity keeps pressure on LCD prices. Japan Display reported a net loss of JPY 78.2 billion for the year to March 2025 and is ending production at Mobara by March 2026, after ending Tottori in March 2025. Falling prices help adoption but squeeze margins for every supplier.

Tariffs on Imported Parts

A March 2025 White House fact sheet set a 25% tariff on imported vehicles and key parts, including electrical components. Most panels are made in Asia, so North American module assembly faces higher input cost unless parts qualify under USMCA.

Growth Drivers

Technology Upgrades Raise Value Per Screen

Omdia forecasts automotive display panel revenue rising from USD 13.6 billion in 2025 to USD 18.3 billion in 2030 even though unit growth stays in single digits. The gap comes from mix: LTPS, mini-LED and OLED panels sell at several times the price of a-Si panels of the same size. In the center stack, LTPS share of shipments rose from 29.1% to 46.4% in two years. Samsung Display holds more than 70% of automotive OLED shipments, and LG Display is gaining as new programs ramp in 2026. Radial Insights estimates that technology mix adds roughly +1.2% of annual growth to the automotive display market over the forecast.

More and Larger Screens in Electric and Chinese Vehicles

OICA counted 34.53 million vehicles built in China in 2025, out of 96.4 million worldwide. Chinese EV makers commonly fit a cluster, a center screen above 15 inches and a passenger display, and many add rear-seat screens. Omdia expects Chinese panel makers to keep gaining share, and Tianma's 49.6-inch panoramic display and BOE's microLED panoramic HUD at CES 2026 show where designs are heading. Radial Insights credits screen count and size with about 0.9 percentage points of the 6.20% CAGR.

Tier-1 Display Programs and Record Order Books

Visteon reported 2025 sales of USD 3,768 million and record new business wins of USD 7.4 billion, of which USD 3.6 billion were displays and USD 1.4 billion were clusters. Aumovio, the former Continental Automotive, began trading in Frankfurt in September 2025 with 2024 sales of EUR 19.6 billion and displays in its product range. LG Display reported automotive revenue of KRW 1,625 billion for the first nine months of 2025, 8.7% of its total. These backlogs lock in volume for 2027 to 2030 models and contribute close to 0.6% a year to growth.

Opportunities

MicroLED and Transparent Displays

BOE showed a microLED panoramic HUD with brightness up to 50,000 nits at CES 2026, and AUO showed a transparent microLED panel. Omdia expects transformable microLED displays after 2028. Early movers can win premium programs before costs fall.

Commercial Vehicle Digital Cockpits

Truck and bus makers are replacing analog gauges and mirrors with digital clusters and camera monitor screens. Rugged, high-brightness displays for commercial vehicles carry strong margins and face less price pressure than passenger car panels.

Asia Pacific Holds More Than Half of Automotive Display Revenue

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) accounted for a 55.40% share of the automotive display market in 2025, worth about USD 11.00 Billion. The APAC market is set to reach USD 21.03 Billion by 2035 at a 6.70% CAGR, the fastest of any region. China built 34.53 million vehicles in 2025, and Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese firms such as BOE, Tianma, Samsung Display, LG Display, JDI and AUO make nearly all automotive panels in the region.

North America

North America held 18.10% of 2025 revenue, about USD 3.59 Billion. The North America market should reach USD 6.08 Billion by 2035, growing at 5.40% a year. Large pickups and SUVs carry big center screens, and Visteon, based in Michigan, booked USD 3.6 billion in display wins in 2025. The 25% US tariff on imported parts slows growth in the region.

Europe

Europe made up 20.30% of the market in 2025, about USD 4.03 Billion, and is forecast to reach USD 6.75 Billion by 2035 at a 5.30% CAGR. BMW builds the iX3 with Panoramic iDrive in Debrecen, Hungary, and Euro NCAP's 2026 button rules shape European cockpit design, keeping European growth the slowest of all regions.

Latin America

Latin America held a 3.10% share in 2025, about USD 615 Million, and is projected to reach USD 1.13 Billion by 2035 at 6.30% a year. Mexico assembles vehicles for US export with digital clusters, and Brazil's local SUVs are adopting 10 inch and larger center screens.

Middle East

The Middle East represented 1.90% of 2025 revenue, about USD 377 Million, and should reach USD 735 Million by 2035 at a 6.90% CAGR. Gulf buyers favor premium SUVs with large and rear-seat screens, and Chinese brands are expanding fast in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Africa

Africa accounted for 1.20% of the 2025 market, about USD 238 Million, rising to about USD 482 Million by 2035 at 7.30% a year. South Africa and Morocco build export models with digital clusters, and Chinese brands with large screens are gaining share in local sales.
