An Aging, Sensor-Heavy Vehicle Fleet Turns TPMS Tools Into Recurring Shop Spend
Spending on TPMS service tools reached USD 684.30 Million in 2025 and climbs to USD 728.23 Million in 2026 on its way to USD 1,274.91 Million by 2035, a 6.42% CAGR in Radial Insights' estimate. The driver is simple: every tire shop needs a working, updated tool to finish a job on a sensor-equipped vehicle.
Tire pressure monitoring has been required on new light vehicles in the US since 2007 and in the EU since 2014, and on new heavy vehicles in the EU since July 2024. The result is a fleet in which almost every car entering a tire bay carries four sensors. Trade estimates cited by Counterman put the US base at about 175 million TPMS-equipped vehicles and roughly 700 million sensors, with batteries lasting 5 to 7 years. When a sensor fails, or when tires are rotated or swapped seasonally, a technician needs a tool to trigger, read, program and relearn it.
The TPMS service tools market covers handheld activation and programming tools, tablet-based diagnostic tools with TPMS functions, OBD relearn modules and adapters, and the paid software update subscriptions that keep tools current with new model years. We exclude the sensors themselves, general scan tools without TPMS programming, tire changers and balancers, and drive-over inspection systems.
Mobile tire services are the fastest-growing end user at 9.20% a year, because a van-based technician cannot complete a job without a portable tool. Asia Pacific (APAC) is the fastest-growing region at 7.80%, as TPMS spreads through the Chinese and Indian fleets and Japan updated its TPMS radio rules in July 2026.
Autel, one of the largest tool makers, reported TPMS revenue of RMB 1.007 billion for 2025, up 42.73%, which shows how quickly demand for both tools and programmable sensors has grown.

By Tool Type: Handhelds Lead, Tablets Grow Fastest
Handheld activation and programming tools remain the largest category because nearly every tire bay keeps one per lift; they grow at 6.10% a year. Tablet-based diagnostic tools with TPMS are the fastest-growing tool type at 8.30%, as shops buy one device that handles TPMS, scan functions and service resets. Software updates and subscriptions grow at 7.60% because every new model year adds sensors, relearn procedures and Bluetooth sensor types. OBD relearn modules grow at only 5.20% as their function is folded into handhelds.
By Vehicle Coverage: Heavy Vehicles Add New Demand
Passenger cars and light trucks dominate revenue and grow at 6.00%. Heavy trucks, buses and trailers grow at 8.70% because the EU required TPMS on all new heavy vehicles from July 2024 and fleets need tools with truck coverage, such as Cojali's Jaltest TPMS of May 2025 and Hamaton's VT Truck 2.0 of November 2025. Motorcycles and powersports grow at 7.90% from a small base as factory TPMS spreads to mid-sized bikes.
By End User: Mobile Services Outpace Dealerships
Independent tire dealers are the largest buyers and grow at 6.50%. Mobile tire services grow at 9.20% and fleet maintenance depots at 8.40%, as on-site tire work replaces trips to a shop. General repair shops grow at 6.90% as they take on more tire work. Franchised dealerships grow at 5.10%, since they often rely on OEM-supplied tools and sell fewer tires.
By Connectivity: Wireless Updating Becomes the Norm
Wireless cloud-connected tools grow at 8.80% a year against 4.60% for wired OBD-linked tools. Bosch's TPA400, unveiled in November 2025, includes over-the-air updates, and Bartec's Bartec365 app manages tool fleets remotely. A TIA survey found up to 35% of technicians had not updated their tool software within a year, which is the problem cloud tools solve.

Market Dynamics
Market Trends
Tool Makers Are Shipping Software Faster Than Ever
Bartec released Tool Software 8.3 in June 2026 and Release 9.0 in October 2026, adding model year 2026 coverage and more OBD relearn functions. Topdon's TP58, launched in May 2025, comes with 5 years of free updates and claims 90% OBD-II relearn coverage. Frequent releases make subscriptions a larger part of tool revenue and push shops toward connected devices.
Bluetooth Sensors Change What a Tool Must Do
Newer vehicles, especially EVs, use Bluetooth Low Energy TPMS sensors in place of the traditional 315 MHz or 433 MHz radio sensors. Topdon added Toyota and Tesla BLE support to the TP58 in May 2025, and Bartec showed support for updating Bluetooth EV sensors at SEMA in November 2025. Shops with older tools cannot service these vehicles, which shortens the replacement cycle for tools.
Tools Are Expanding Into Tread and Tire Health Data
In September 2026, Bartec launched the Tread-Rite tread depth tool as a companion to its TECH550Pro and TECH600Pro. Bartec's CEO said that TPMS is no longer just about replacing a sensor and completing a relearn. Tool makers want each tire visit to generate data that helps the shop sell tires and services, which raises the value of each device.
Commercial Vehicle TPMS Tools Are Becoming a Separate Category
Cojali launched Jaltest TPMS for trucks, buses, trailers and LCVs in May 2025, and Hamaton launched VT Truck 2.0, which can manage up to 22 vehicles, in November 2025. Schrader showed heavy-duty sensors and an AirCheck BLE retrofit kit for trailers and RVs at AAPEX in November 2025. Heavy-vehicle tools carry higher prices and serve fleets that run their own depots.
Restraints and Challenges
Shops Delay Updates and Replacements
A TIA survey found that up to 35% of technicians had not updated TPMS tool software in the past year, which led ATEQ, Bartec, Continental, Schrader and TIA to run a joint campaign urging updates. Shops that skip paid updates delay revenue for tool makers and keep older hardware in service longer than planned.
Low-Cost Online Tools Compress Prices
Chinese brands such as Xtool, Launch and Topdon sell capable TPMS tools through e-commerce at prices well below traditional distributor channels. This widens access for small shops but limits pricing power for premium brands and moves value toward software subscriptions rather than hardware margins.
Universal Sensors Reduce Tool Complexity
Programmable universal sensors let a shop cover hundreds of OE part numbers with a few SKUs; Continental says 4 REDI-Sensor SKUs replace more than 300 OE sensors. Fewer sensor types mean simpler tool coverage needs, and some sensor makers now push smartphone or NFC programming apps that can substitute for a dedicated handheld in basic jobs.
Compliance Issues Show How Complex the Systems Are
Volkswagen filed an FMVSS 138 TPMS noncompliance report in September 2025 for about 81,456 model year 2024 and 2025 Jetta and Taos vehicles, and NHTSA published notice of VW's petition in May 2026 (NHTSA FMVSS). Each OEM variation adds procedures tool makers must support, which raises development cost and can delay coverage for new models. Europe's fleet adds further variety: ACEA counts 256 million cars and 6.2 million trucks on EU roads (ACEA).
Growth Drivers
Sensor Battery Failures in an Aging Fleet Create Steady Service Volume
S&P Global Mobility reported in May 2025 that the average US light vehicle is 12.8 years old, across about 289 million vehicles in operation. TPMS sensors last 5 to 7 years, so a large share of vehicles built after the 2007 US mandate are now on their second or third set of sensors. Trade estimates put the potential US replacement pool above 150 million sensors a year. Each replacement requires a tool to program the new sensor and relearn it to the vehicle, and each tire dealer keeps several tools in service. We estimate the aging fleet and sensor replacement cycle contribute about +2.3% of annual growth to the TPMS service tools market, the largest single factor. Autel's 42.73% jump in 2025 TPMS revenue to RMB 1.007 billion, which it linked to global regulations driving replacement demand, shows how strong this pull has become.
Heavy-Vehicle TPMS Rules Open the Fleet Depot Channel
The EU's General Safety Regulation made TPMS mandatory on all new heavy trucks, buses and trailers from July 2024, and Europe's truck fleet of 6.2 million vehicles averages 14 years of age, according to ACEA. As TPMS-equipped trucks enter service, fleets and truck tire dealers buy dedicated tools with heavy-vehicle coverage. Cojali's Jaltest TPMS, launched in May 2025, and Hamaton's VT Truck 2.0 tool, launched in November 2025, target this group. Truck tools sell at higher prices than car handhelds and often include fleet management software. This driver lifts the market's CAGR by roughly 1.2 percentage points through 2035.
New Sensor Technologies Force Tool Upgrades
Bluetooth Low Energy sensors on EVs and new models from Toyota and Tesla, plus Japan's revised TPMS radio rules effective July 24, 2026, which widened the permitted band to 433.05-434.79 MHz, mean older tools cannot cover every vehicle. Bosch's TPA400 of November 2025 and Bartec's Release 9.0 of October 2026 were built around this need. Each technology shift shortens the useful life of installed tools and pushes shops to buy new hardware or paid updates. We credit this upgrade cycle with close to +0.9% of yearly market growth, with Bartec, ATEQ, Autel and Robert Bosch the main beneficiaries.
Opportunities
Subscription Software and Tool Fleet Management
Cloud platforms such as Bartec365 let tool makers sell updates, usage reporting and multi-site management to dealer chains. Converting one-time hardware buyers into subscribers smooths revenue and raises lifetime value per shop.
Emerging-Market Fleets Entering the Replacement Cycle
China, India and Latin America adopted TPMS rules for new cars later than the US and EU. As those vehicles age past 5 years, demand for programming tools in these regions will rise, favoring low-cost brands such as Launch, Xtool and Topdon with strong local distribution.
North America Holds 36.40% of Spending, but Asia Pacific Grows Fastest
North America
North America accounts for 36.40% of the TPMS service tools market in 2025, worth USD 249.09 Million. North America reaches USD 433.61 Million by 2035 at a 5.70% CAGR. The region has the oldest mandate, in force since 2007, a light-vehicle parc of about 289 million in the US alone, and a dense network of independent tire dealers served by Bartec, ATEQ, Schrader and Myers Tire Supply.
Europe
Europe holds 29.20% of 2025 revenue, valued at USD 199.82 Million, and grows at 5.90% a year to USD 354.48 Million by 2035. Seasonal winter and summer tire changes in Germany, the Nordics and the Alps double the number of TPMS interactions per vehicle in Europe, and the 2024 heavy-vehicle mandate adds truck depots. ACEA counts 256 million cars on EU roads.
Asia Pacific (APAC)
Asia Pacific (APAC) represents 24.60% of the market, or USD 168.34 Million in 2025, and grows at 7.80% a year to USD 356.75 Million by 2035, the fastest-growing region. China's TPMS fitment requirement for new cars has created a fleet now entering its first sensor replacement cycle, and Japan's revised TPMS radio rules took effect in July 2026. Chinese tool makers Autel, Launch and Topdon are based in the APAC region.
Latin America
Latin America has a 5.10% share, worth USD 34.90 Million in 2025, and expands at 7.10% a year to USD 69.30 Million by 2035. Brazil and Mexico lead Latin America demand as imported vehicles with TPMS age and independent shops buy their first programming tools.
Middle East
The Middle East holds 2.90% of the market, valued at USD 19.84 Million in 2025, and grows at 6.90% a year to USD 38.67 Million by 2035. High temperatures shorten sensor battery life in the Gulf, and the large share of imported US-spec vehicles in the Middle East keeps tool demand tied to North American coverage.
Africa
Africa accounts for 1.80% of revenue, or USD 12.32 Million in 2025, and grows at 7.60% a year to USD 25.62 Million by 2035. South Africa and Morocco lead Africa's demand, where newer imported vehicles and fleet operators drive first purchases of TPMS tools.
