Tire pressure gauges are growing faster than the vehicle fleet because most drivers still check pressure by hand or not at all

Buyers spent USD 842.60 Million on tire pressure gauges worldwide in 2025, a figure Radial Insights expects to rise to USD 879.42 Million in 2026 and USD 1,292.34 Million by 2035, a 4.37% CAGR. Growth outpaces the global light vehicle parc because digital gauges sell at higher prices and fleets now treat manual checks as a compliance task.

The Tire Pressure Gauges market covers handheld devices that read inflation pressure at the valve stem: pencil and stick gauges, dial gauges, digital gauges, inflator gauges used with shop air, and combined pressure and tread depth tools. We value sales at the price paid by the first buyer outside the maker, whether a retailer, distributor or end user. Vehicle-mounted tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), TPMS service tools, drive-over inspection systems, cordless and 12V portable inflators sold mainly as compressors, and bicycle floor pumps with built-in gauges are excluded.

The need is large. A June 2025 survey for the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) found that 77% of US drivers know they should check pressure at least monthly, yet only 46% know where to find the recommended pressure, and 35% think it is printed on the tire. USTMA also reports that 12% of US passenger vehicles from model years 2004 to 2011 have at least one tire underinflated by 25% or more.

Online retail is the fastest-growing segment at 6.74% a year, and digital gauges lead product types at 6.12%. Africa is the fastest-growing region at 5.80%, while Asia Pacific (APAC) holds the largest share at 33.40% of 2025 sales.

Our estimate combines vehicles in operation, replacement cycles for gauges in workshops and fleets, average selling prices by product type and channel checks with distributors. The US alone had 289 million light vehicles in operation in 2025, according to S&P Global Mobility, and the EU counted 256 million cars on its roads, per ACEA.

Digital gauges lead product growth at 6.12% because accuracy and backlit displays justify higher prices

Digital gauges with MEMS piezoresistive sensors, backlit screens and 0.1 psi resolution grow at 6.12% a year. Combined pressure and tread depth gauges follow at 5.42% as fleets and dealers log both readings in one step. Inflator gauges, the workshop tool that fills and reads at once, grow at 4.86%, helped by launches such as the Milton S-568 heavy-duty digital inflator gauge rated to 255 psi. Dial gauges hold at 3.48% thanks to loyal users who prefer no batteries, while pencil and stick gauges, the cheapest format, grow only 1.24%.

Commercial fleets grow fastest among end users at 5.06%

Fleets grow at 5.06% because tire cost and roadside downtime are directly measurable, and pre-trip inspections require a pressure reading. Repair shops and tire dealers grow at 4.38% as technicians replace worn inflator gauges on two to four year cycles. DIY vehicle owners grow at 4.21%, a rate tied to awareness campaigns such as USTMA's National Tire Safety Week. Motorsport and specialty users grow at 3.92%, a small but high-price niche served by Longacre and Intercomp.

Heavy trucks and buses post the highest vehicle-type rate at 5.14%

Truck and bus tires run at 100 psi or more and cost far more per unit, so fleets buy high-range gauges and replace them often. That end use grows at 5.14% a year. Two-wheelers and bicycles grow at 4.88% with scooter and e-bike adoption in Asia and Europe. Light commercial vehicles grow at 4.58% with delivery van fleets, and passenger cars grow at 3.96%.

Online retail outpaces every other channel at 6.74%

Amazon-led brands such as AstroAI, JACO, Rhino USA and TireTek sell digital and dial gauges online with heavy review-driven marketing, and online retail grows at 6.74% a year. Tool distributors and mobile tool vans, the route for Snap-on and Matco, grow at 3.62%. OEM and accessory kits grow at 3.10%, while auto parts retail stores trail at 2.86% as shelf space shifts to inflators and jump starters.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Digital sensors replace mechanical gauges in workshops

Workshop inflators are moving to digital readouts with tighter tolerances. In August 2025 Sealey launched its Qube SA390 digital tyre inflator for garages, with a ceramic sensor rated at plus or minus 0.5% of full scale, nitrogen purge and bead-seat modes, and a patented PCL clip-on connector. Milton Industries listed its S-568 heavy-duty digital inflator gauge in June 2025 with 0.1 psi accuracy up to 255 psi. Shops told us digital units cost two to three times as much as dial units, which lifts market value faster than unit volume.

TPMS limits keep manual gauges relevant

TPMS warns only when pressure falls well below placard. AAA testing in October 2023 found TPMS readings were within 1.2% to 1.5% of a calibrated gauge, but warnings triggered at about 70% to 75% of placard pressure. In September 2026 FCA US recalled 201,976 Jeep vehicles because a software error could stop the TPMS from detecting low pressure. Each such event pushes drivers and service advisors back to a handheld gauge.

Older vehicles and longer ownership

S&P Global Mobility reported in May 2025 that the average US light vehicle is 12.8 years old, with passenger cars averaging 14.5 years. Older vehicles have aging TPMS sensors, and owners who stop replacing failed sensors depend on manual checks. ACEA data from January 2026 show EU trucks average 14 years old, and Europe's 31.1 million vans and 6.2 million trucks are core fleet gauge users.

Legacy brands lean on heritage and repairability

In January 2025 Sheffield maker PCL marked 80 years of handheld inflation, highlighting its Airforce MK4 with a new piston and seal design that it says lasts more than ten times as many cycles as its main competitor. Long-life, serviceable tools appeal to fleets and forecourts that want lower total cost, and they set European workshops apart from low-cost online imports.

Restraints and Challenges

TPMS reduces the urgency for casual drivers

Every new light vehicle sold in the US must carry TPMS under FMVSS 138, and the EU requires it on new cars. Many drivers now wait for a dashboard light instead of checking monthly. The USTMA National Tire Safety Week fact sheet shows how wide the knowledge gap remains, with 35% of drivers believing the recommended pressure is on the tire sidewall.

Price pressure from online private labels

Low-cost digital gauges made in China and sold online compress prices for established brands. Distributors said average selling prices for entry digital gauges fell in 2025 even as unit volumes rose, which caps value growth in the consumer segment.

Accuracy and calibration concerns

Cheap gauges can drift by several psi, and few consumers ever calibrate them. NHTSA research found tires underinflated by more than 25% were about three times as likely to be involved in a pre-crash tire problem, so a poor gauge has real safety consequences, and shops are wary of untested brands. The NHTSA study is available through NHTSA crash statistics.

Competition from inflators with built-in gauges

Cordless and 12V portable inflators now display pressure and stop at a preset level. Many consumers buy one device instead of a gauge plus a pump, which takes volume from standalone gauges in auto parts stores.

Growth Drivers

Fleet inspection programs and higher tire costs

Fleets run pre-trip inspections and scheduled yard checks, and each check needs a reliable high-range gauge. Europe had 31.1 million vans and 6.2 million trucks on the road in 2024 according to ACEA's January 2026 report, and US truck and delivery fleets are similar in scale. Correct pressure improves fuel economy by up to 3% according to the US Department of Energy figure cited by USTMA, and for a heavy truck that saving alone pays for several gauges a year. Haltec, Milton Industries and PCL sell gauges built for 150 psi and above, and fleet managers we interviewed said they replace gauges every 18 to 36 months because of drops, contamination and calibration drift. We attribute about +1.3% of annual growth to fleet demand, the largest of the three drivers.

Safety campaigns and the driver knowledge gap

The USTMA's 2025 National Tire Safety Week, run from June 30 to July 4, surveyed 2,000 drivers through Censuswide and found that only 21.1% think pressure should be checked weekly and 19.4% monthly, while more than 10% check only before long trips or never. NHTSA links underinflation with a threefold rise in pre-crash tire problems, and AAA advises a manual check about once a month even on TPMS-equipped cars. Retailers and tire dealers promote gauges around these campaigns, and dealers we interviewed said first-time buyers often trade up to digital models later. This awareness effect lifts the market by roughly +0.8 percentage points a year.

Aging vehicles and TPMS failures

S&P Global Mobility counted 289 million US light vehicles in operation in 2025 with an average age of 12.8 years. TPMS sensor batteries typically last 5 to 10 years, and many owners of older cars do not replace failed sensors, which leaves the handheld gauge as the only reading. Recalls such as FCA's September 2026 action covering 201,976 Jeeps, where software could stop low-pressure detection, remind service advisors to verify with a gauge. The Tire Industry Association scheduled a "TPMS at 10" technician survey session at the Global Tire Expo in November 2025, reflecting how central TPMS service has become to dealers. We estimate the aging-fleet effect contributes close to +0.6% of yearly growth.

Opportunities

Connected gauges for fleet records

Bluetooth gauges that send readings to a fleet app or a dealer's service system can turn a hand tool into a data source. Fleet buyers told us they would pay a premium for gauges that log pressure and tread depth against each wheel position.

Two-wheeler and micromobility users

Scooters, motorcycles and e-bikes are highly sensitive to low pressure. Compact digital gauges with Presta and Schrader heads, a format Topeak already serves for bicycles, can grow with micromobility in Asia and Europe.

Asia Pacific (APAC) and North America together hold almost two thirds of gauge sales, while Africa is the fastest-growing region

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) accounted for 33.40% of the market in 2025, about USD 281.43 Million, and we expect Asia Pacific to reach USD 475.28 Million by 2035 at a 5.38% CAGR. China is both the largest manufacturing base and a fast-growing user market, and its vehicle output of 34.53 million units in 2025, per CAAM, keeps adding owners. Two-wheeler fleets in India, Indonesia and Vietnam create steady demand for low-cost dial and digital gauges in Asia Pacific.

North America

North America held 31.20% of 2025 sales, about USD 262.89 Million, and grows at 3.55% to USD 372.63 Million by 2035. The United States had 289 million light vehicles in operation in 2025, and online brands such as AstroAI, JACO and Rhino USA compete with Milton Industries, Snap-on and Slime in North America.

Europe

Europe took 22.60% of 2025 sales, about USD 190.43 Million, and grows at 3.25% to USD 262.20 Million in 2035, the slowest rate. The EU had 256 million cars on its roads in 2024, per ACEA, and European workshops buy from PCL, Sealey and other established tool brands that stress calibration and long service life.

Latin America

Latin America represented 5.80% of 2025 sales, about USD 48.87 Million, and should reach USD 78.85 Million by 2035 at 4.90% a year. Brazil and Mexico lead, with large independent repair networks and growing online marketplaces such as Mercado Libre carrying imported digital gauges across Latin America.

Middle East

The Middle East held 4.10% of 2025 sales, about USD 34.55 Million, and grows at 5.20% to USD 57.35 Million by 2035. High desert temperatures raise tire pressure swings and blowout risk, so Gulf fleets and fuel station networks in the Middle East keep gauges and inflators on hand.

Africa

Africa accounted for 2.90% of 2025 sales, about USD 24.44 Million, and is the fastest-growing region at 5.80% a year, reaching USD 42.94 Million by 2035. Minibus taxis, motorcycle taxis and long-haul trucking in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa drive Africa's demand for durable dial and high-range gauges.
