Electric scooters and India's alloy wheel capacity race are setting the pace for motorcycle wheels

Global spending on motorcycle wheels reached USD 5.85 billion in 2025, and Radial Insights expects USD 6.17 billion in 2026 and USD 9.90 billion by 2035, a 5.40% CAGR. Volume is anchored in Asia, where India and China together built more than 47 million two-wheelers in their latest reporting years, so every percentage point of alloy conversion in commuter bikes moves the global total.

The study covers finished wheels and rims fitted to motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and electric two-wheelers: cast aluminum alloy wheels, wire spoke wheels (rims, spokes and hubs sold as assemblies), forged aluminum and magnesium wheels, carbon fiber wheels and pressed steel wheels. Revenue is counted at the first sale, either to a vehicle maker (OEM) or to a dealer, distributor or rider (aftermarket). Tires, tubes, brake discs, wheel bearings sold separately, and wheels for three-wheelers, quadricycles and bicycles are excluded.

Electric two-wheelers are the fastest vehicle segment at an 11.80% CAGR, because Indian and Southeast Asian e-scooter platforms specify cast alloy, tubeless wheels from launch, often with integrated hub motor interfaces. Carbon fiber wheels grow fastest by wheel type at 9.20% a year, but from a small premium base. Africa is the fastest region at 6.40%, while Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 68.50% of 2025 value.

Supply is tightening at the top. Uno Minda runs about 8 million two-wheeler alloy wheels a year at Supa, Endurance Technologies started a 3.6 million-wheel plant at AURIC Bidkin in October 2025, and both have booked further expansions. That capacity is being added on the strength of record Indian demand: SIAM counted 21.71 million domestic two-wheeler wholesales in FY2026 and a record 5.18 million exports.

Mature markets are softer. ACEM reported 1,002,848 motorcycle registrations across Europe's five largest markets in 2025, down 12.9%, and US retail sales slipped 7.6% according to the Motorcycle Industry Council. In those markets the motorcycle wheels business leans on premium forged and carbon upgrades rather than unit growth.

Cast alloy wheels lead the volume, carbon fiber wheels lead the growth

Cast aluminum alloy wheels are the largest wheel type and grow at 5.90% a year. In India they have moved from premium bikes into 110cc and 125cc commuters and almost every scooter, which is why Uno Minda, Endurance Technologies, Rockman Industries and Enkei Wheels India keep adding casting lines. Wire spoke wheels, at 3.10%, stay relevant on adventure, retro and off-road models, where Excel, Kineo and Alpina supply rims and tubeless spoke systems. Forged aluminum and magnesium wheels grow at 6.40%, led by Marchesini and OZ Racing in superbikes and track-day upgrades. Carbon fiber wheels, at 9.20%, benefit from BST supplying OE wheels to BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda and Kawasaki models and from Dymag's industrialization partnership with Taiwan's AIM, announced in May 2025. Steel wheels grow at only 1.80% because buyers in Africa and parts of Southeast Asia still choose them for cost, but each new model cycle moves more volume to alloy.

Electric two-wheelers grow more than twice as fast as commuter motorcycles

Electric two-wheelers grow at 11.80% a year because e-scooter makers such as Ather, TVS, Bajaj and Ola fit alloy, tubeless wheels as standard and often specify lighter designs to protect range. Endurance reported EV alloy wheel orders of about INR 31 crore in its Q3 FY2026 presentation. Scooters overall grow at 6.30%, helped by SIAM's FY2026 count of 8.12 million domestic scooter wholesales, up 18.5%. Premium and sport motorcycles grow at 5.70%, off-road and adventure motorcycles at 5.20%, and commuter motorcycles at 4.60%, since that segment is already largely converted in India and price pressure caps value gains.

Tubeless-ready wheels take share from tube-type rims

Tubeless-ready wheels grow at 6.60% a year against 1.90% for tube-type wheels. Riders and regulators favor tubeless fitment for puncture safety, and alloy wheels are tubeless by design. Tubeless spoke systems from Kineo and Alpina extend the shift into adventure bikes, which long needed tubes with spoked rims.

Aftermarket upgrades grow faster than OEM fitment

The OEM channel grows at 5.20% a year and carries most volume, because wheels are fitted on the assembly line in India, China and Indonesia. The aftermarket grows faster at 6.10%. Forged and carbon upgrades from Rotobox, BST, Dymag, Marchesini and Performance Machine command high unit prices in Europe and North America, and replacement of crash-damaged cast wheels adds steady volume in Asia.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Indian suppliers are adding two-wheeler alloy capacity in successive waves

In May 2025 Uno Minda started commercial production on a 2 million-wheel expansion at Supa, taking the site to about 8 million wheels a year, and approved a 1.5 million-wheel plant at Bawal. In September 2026 its board cleared about INR 155 crore for a 1.3 million-wheel plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana, for production in Q4 FY2028. Endurance Technologies began production at AURIC Bidkin on 11 October 2025 and described the 3.6 million-wheel plant as fully booked in February 2026. These moves show that motorcycle wheels in India are now a capacity-led, contract-backed business.

Carbon fiber is moving from boutique to industrial production

In May 2025 Dymag, owned by Germany's Borbet since August 2024, partnered with Taiwan's Advanced International Multitech to industrialize carbon hybrid and composite wheels for cars and motorcycles. BST already supplies one-piece carbon wheels as OE fitment to several premium brands. Industrial-scale layup lowers unit costs and is the main reason we model carbon fiber wheels at a 9.20% CAGR.

Electric scooters are rewriting wheel specifications

Electric two-wheelers need light, stiff wheels that leave room for hub motors and regenerative braking hardware. Endurance cited Ather among its alloy wheel customers in its February 2026 presentation, and e-scooter volumes in India and Indonesia keep rising. Wheel makers are responding with high-pressure die-cast designs, and Uno Minda plans HPDC two-wheeler wheels at its Hosur casting plant.

Chinese exports are reshaping demand in Latin America and Africa

China exported 13.37 million motorcycles in 2025, up 21.3%, according to the China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycle. From January to April 2025 alone, 2.21 million went to Latin America. Each export bike leaves the factory on Chinese-made wheels, while replacement demand then lands with local distributors, which supports aftermarket motorcycle wheels growth in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Nigeria and Kenya.

Restraints and Challenges

Aluminum price swings squeeze cast wheel margins

Aluminum is the largest cost item in a cast wheel. Indian suppliers pass metal costs through with a lag of one to two quarters, so sharp moves in LME prices compress margins in the interim. Steel Strips Wheels reported alloy wheels at 35% of revenue in Q1 FY2027 while it runs a INR 500 to 600 crore capex program, leaving earnings exposed when metal and energy prices rise together.

Weak registrations in Europe and the US slow premium volume

ACEM's 2025 data showed motorcycle registrations in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK fell 12.9% to 1,002,848 units, with Germany down 35.7% after the Euro 5+ changeover. The ACEM release also showed mopeds down 20.7%. The Motorcycle Industry Council reported a 7.6% fall in US retail sales in 2025. Fewer new bikes mean fewer premium OE wheel orders in these regions.

Regulatory uncertainty delays specification changes in India

India's road transport ministry proposed in June 2025 to require ABS on all new two-wheelers from January 2026, but reports in November 2025 said the deadline for models up to 125cc was likely to be deferred, with no new date set. Uncertainty makes OEMs hesitate on wheel redesigns that ABS tone rings and sensor mounts would require.

Utilization gaps and overcapacity risk

Uno Minda said in September 2026 that its existing 8 million-wheel facility ran at about 70% utilization, even as it approved new plants. If domestic sales cool after the strong FY2026, several suppliers adding capacity at once could push down per-wheel prices for commuter motorcycle wheels.

Growth Drivers

Record Indian two-wheeler demand drives OEM wheel volume

SIAM reported 21,705,974 domestic two-wheeler wholesales in FY2026, up 10.7%, with motorcycles at 13.06 million and scooters at 8.12 million. Two-wheeler exports reached a record 5.18 million, up 23.4%. Each vehicle needs two wheels, so FY2026 alone created demand for more than 53 million OE motorcycle wheels in India before replacement. Buyers such as Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Yamaha and Ather placed alloy wheel orders with Endurance worth about INR 168 crore at peak annual value, according to its February 2026 presentation. Uno Minda's planned 9.3 million-wheel two-wheeler capacity and Endurance's 3.6 million-wheel Bidkin plant are direct responses. We estimate that rising Indian volume and the continued shift from spoke to alloy wheels add about +1.4% to the market's annual growth over the forecast period, the largest single contribution of any driver.

Electrification of scooters favors lighter, higher-value wheels

Electric two-wheelers carry heavier batteries, so makers specify wheels that save weight and handle hub motor torque. Endurance reported EV-specific alloy wheel orders of about INR 31 crore in February 2026, and Uno Minda is planning high-pressure die-cast wheels at Hosur aimed at new platforms. Indonesia's AISI targets 6.4 to 6.7 million domestic sales in 2026, and Vietnam's market rose to about 3.4 million in 2025, both with growing electric shares. Because EV wheels sell at a higher average price than steel or basic cast wheels, we attribute roughly +0.9 percentage points of yearly market growth to electrification, rising toward the end of the decade as e-scooter shares climb.

Premium riders keep spending on forged and carbon upgrades

Although European registrations fell in 2025, the premium segment kept its spending power. MIC data showed US sport bike sales up 13% in 2025 even as total retail sales fell. Track-focused riders buy forged Marchesini or OZ wheels and carbon wheels from BST, Rotobox and Dymag to cut unsprung mass, and these products often sell at ten to twenty times the price of a cast commuter wheel. Borbet's ownership of Dymag gives carbon wheels access to industrial resources. We estimate that premium upgrades contribute close to +0.6% of the market's yearly expansion, concentrated in Europe and North America where they offset weak unit sales.

Opportunities

Replacement wheels for Chinese-built bikes in emerging markets

China exported 13.37 million motorcycles in 2025. As these bikes age in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, riders need replacement wheels after crashes and pothole damage. Distributors that stock standardized cast and steel wheels for the most common Chinese platforms can capture a fast-growing aftermarket.

Tubeless spoke systems for adventure motorcycles

Adventure riders want spoke strength without tubes. Kineo and Alpina sell tubeless spoke systems, and OEMs increasingly specify them on adventure models. Wider adoption could lift the value of the spoke segment, which otherwise grows slowly.

Asia Pacific (APAC) builds more than two-thirds of the world's motorcycle wheels

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 68.50% of global motorcycle wheels revenue, worth USD 4.01 billion in 2025, and should reach USD 7.04 billion by 2035 at a 5.80% CAGR. India and China drive the region: China produced 22.11 million motorcycles in 2025 and India's two-wheeler production is about 25.5 million units a year. Indonesia sold 6.41 million motorcycles in 2025 and Vietnam about 3.4 million, giving APAC wheel makers a large and steady OEM base.

North America

North America accounts for 7.20% of the market, about USD 421 million in 2025, rising to USD 588 million by 2035 at a 3.40% CAGR. North America's demand is skewed to cruisers, touring bikes and sport bikes, where Performance Machine and other custom wheel makers sell high-value forged and billet wheels. North American retail sales fell 7.6% in 2025 per MIC, but sport bike sales rose 13%, supporting premium aftermarket wheels.

Europe

Europe represents 12.40% of 2025 revenue, about USD 725 million, and should reach USD 1,043 million by 2035, growing at 3.70% a year. Europe's five largest markets registered 1,002,848 motorcycles in 2025, with Italy at 331,634 units and Spain up 8.3% to 242,580. Italian makers Marchesini, OZ Racing, Kineo and Alpina give Europe a strong position in forged and spoke wheels for superbikes and adventure models.

Latin America

Latin America takes 7.60% of the market, about USD 445 million in 2025, rising to USD 767 million in 2035 at a 5.60% CAGR. Brazil's Manaus assembly hub and imports from China feed demand: Chinese exporters shipped 2.21 million motorcycles to Latin America in the first four months of 2025 alone. Delivery and ride-hailing fleets in Latin America replace wheels frequently, lifting aftermarket sales.

Middle East

The Middle East holds 2.30% of revenue, about USD 135 million in 2025, growing to USD 219 million by 2035 at 5.00% a year. Middle East demand is led by food delivery fleets in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which run thousands of scooters and replace wheels on short cycles, plus a premium leisure segment in the Gulf.

Africa

Africa contributes 2.00% of 2025 revenue, about USD 117 million, but is the fastest region, reaching USD 218 million by 2035 at a 6.40% CAGR. Motorcycle taxis in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania drive demand for durable steel and cast wheels, and Africa's growing share of Indian and Chinese two-wheeler exports adds OEM volume.

Indian casting specialists dominate volume while Italian and carbon brands own the premium tier

The motorcycle wheels market has two tiers. A handful of high-volume cast alloy suppliers in India, China and Japan serve OEM assembly lines on long contracts, while a group of European, South African and US brands sell forged, spoke and carbon wheels at much higher prices. The two tiers rarely compete directly.

High-volume OEM cast wheel suppliers

Uno Minda is India's largest two-wheeler alloy wheel maker, with about 8 million wheels a year at Supa and more plants approved at Bawal and Kharkhoda. Endurance Technologies supplies Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Yamaha and Ather from Chakan and its new Bidkin plant, and alloy wheels made up 11.5% of its standalone income in Q1 FY2027. Rockman Industries, part of the Hero group, casts alloy wheels for Hero MotoCorp. Enkei Wheels India produces about 120,000 two-wheeler wheels a month, and its Japanese parent Enkei supplies cast wheels across Asia. Steel Strips Wheels is growing its two- and three-wheeler business alongside car and truck wheels.

Spoke wheel and rim specialists

Excel, made by Japan's Takasago, is the reference rim for off-road and adventure spoke wheels and is fitted by several OEMs. Kineo and Alpina, both Italian, focus on tubeless spoke wheel systems that let adventure and retro bikes run tubeless tires. Wheels India, part of the TVS group, supplies steel wheels mainly for other vehicle classes but holds relevant pressing capacity.

Forged and racing wheel brands

Marchesini, part of the Brembo group, makes forged magnesium and aluminum wheels used in racing and on premium superbikes. OZ Racing sells forged aluminum lines such as Piega and Gass through its motorbike division. Performance Machine, part of the MAG group in the US, focuses on forged and billet wheels for Harley-Davidson and cruiser owners.

Carbon fiber wheel makers

BST (BlackStone Tek) of South Africa makes one-piece carbon wheels and supplies OE fitments for BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda and Kawasaki models. Rotobox of Slovenia sells forged carbon aftermarket wheels such as the Bullet and Boost ranges. Dymag of the UK, owned by Borbet since 2024, makes carbon, magnesium and forged aluminum wheels and is scaling production through its 2025 partnership with AIM in Taiwan.
