Soil-Compaction Rules and Bigger Tractors Push IF/VF Tires Toward USD 2.88 Billion by 2035

Global spending on IF/VF agricultural tires reached USD 1.38 Billion in 2025, and Radial Insights expects USD 1.49 Billion in 2026 and USD 2.88 Billion by 2035, a CAGR of 7.62% from 2025 to 2035.

That growth rate is well above the 4.52% we project for the wider agricultural tires category, because flexion casings are taking share inside a farm tire pool that is not growing much in units. IF (Increased Flexion) tires carry about 20% more load than a standard radial of the same size at the same pressure, and VF (Very High Flexion) tires carry about 40% more, or the same load at roughly 40% lower pressure. That is the definition used by Ascenso, Maxam, BKT and other suppliers when they market these casings, and it is why large farms and contractors in Europe and North America now treat VF as the default choice on new high-horsepower tractors.

The IF/VF agricultural tires market in this report covers new IF and VF tires sold for tractors, combines and harvesters, self-propelled sprayers, trailers, spreaders, slurry tankers and grain carts, through OEM fitment and replacement channels. It excludes standard radial and bias farm tires, rubber tracks, retreaded tires, central tire inflation hardware and wheels, although we discuss rim and CTIS compatibility where it shapes demand.

VF technology is the larger and faster sub-group at 8.45% a year, against 6.10% for IF. By equipment, self-propelled sprayers are the fastest segment at 9.10%, because sprayer tires run at speed on the road and at low pressure in the field, which is exactly the duty VF was designed for. By region, Latin America is the fastest at 9.80%, led by Brazilian row-crop farms that are buying 300 hp and larger tractors.

Europe holds the largest share at 37.40% in 2025, followed by North America at 30.80%. The 2025 unit slump in tractor sales, with US over-100 hp tractor registrations down 22.6%, held the IF/VF agricultural tires market back last year, but the replacement cycle and the steady move to VF on new sizes keep the 2025 to 2035 trend firmly positive.

VF Casings and Sprayer Fitments Set the Pace While IF Becomes the Entry Option

We split the IF/VF agricultural tires market five ways: flexion technology, equipment type, construction, rim diameter and sales channel. Growth rates differ sharply because each segment depends on a different buyer, from the tractor OEM choosing a factory fitment to a contractor replacing worn sprayer tires after three seasons.

VF Technology Outgrows IF by More Than Two Points a Year

VF leads with a CAGR of 8.45% because its 40% load or pressure advantage gives a bigger footprint and a clearer compaction benefit than IF's 20%. Tire makers are also launching most new sizes as VF first: Firestone Ag's March 2026 expansion reached the VF480/95R54 size, and Mitas chose VF PFO for its Granterra range at Agritechnica in November 2025. IF grows at 6.10% as the lower-cost step up from standard radials, especially on mid-size tractors and in markets such as India and Eastern Europe where farmers are price sensitive.

Self-Propelled Sprayers Lead Equipment Growth at 9.10%

Sprayers run at road speeds between fields and at low pressure in growing crops, so the benefit of a flexible sidewall shows up in both yield and fuel use. CEAT launched its Spraymax Pro VF sprayer tire in North America at the Farm Progress Show in September 2026. Trailers, spreaders and tankers follow at 8.30% as European slurry and digestate rules push heavy tankers onto low-pressure tires. Tractors, the largest segment, grow at 7.20%, and combines and harvesters at 7.05% because combine sales are the most cyclical, down 35.6% in the US in 2025.

Steel-Belted Radial VF Casings Gain at 8.90%

Steel belts hold the tread flat at low pressure and resist stubble damage, which matters on 400 hp tractors and heavy carts. BKT showed a steel-belted VF 750/60 R46 version of its Agrimax Spargo at the September 2026 Farm Progress Show. Textile-belted radials remain the larger group and grow at 7.35%, since they are lighter and cheaper and still dominate European tractor fitment.

Rims of 50 Inch and Above Are the Fastest Size Band

The 50 inch and above band grows at 8.60% because the newest high-horsepower tractors use tall, narrow row-crop sizes such as R50 and R54. The 42 to 46 inch band grows at 7.70%, and the up to 38 inch band at 6.80%, as smaller tractors adopt flexion casings more slowly.

OEM Fitment Grows Faster Than Replacement

OEM demand grows at 7.95% because tractor and sprayer makers now specify VF as standard on many premium models, so every new machine sold adds IF/VF content even in a flat unit market. Replacement grows at 7.30%: it is the larger channel by volume, but farmers sometimes downgrade to a standard radial when they replace tires, which caps its rate.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Specialty VF Casings Spread Beyond Row-Crop Tractors

The VF label is moving into niches that once used only standard tires. At Agritechnica in November 2025, Trelleborg launched the TM200 ProgressiveTraction, which it describes as the first conventional VF tire for vineyard and orchard tractors, with up to 40% higher load capacity than standard tires and up to 15% more traction in its comparative tests. Prometeon showed its Serie 02 range with standard, IF and VF options, and Maxam presented an AgriXtra XL VF line. Each launch adds new sizes to the IF/VF agricultural tires market and widens the pool of tractors that can use flexion casings.

Very Large Diameters Arrive With New Tractor Platforms

Tire makers are now developing sizes alongside tractor OEMs. In March 2026, Firestone Ag added sizes to its Maxi Traction and Radial Deep Tread 23 degree lines at Commodity Classic, developed with John Deere for its latest tractors. The largest, VF480/95R54, stands about 90 inches tall and is rated to carry 16,100 pounds. Sizes of this kind can only reach their load ratings with VF casings, which locks flexion technology into the next generation of high-horsepower equipment.

Low-Pressure Field Operation Labels Shape Marketing

Suppliers are adding labels such as PFO (Pressure Field Operation) and CFO (Cyclical Field Operation) to explain when a VF tire can run at reduced pressure. Mitas built its Granterra range launched in November 2025 around VF PFO for high-torque work at 5 to 15 km/h, and CEAT paired VF with CFO on its Spraymax Pro launched in September 2026. These labels make it easier for dealers to sell the pressure benefit, and they push buyers toward central tire inflation systems that let operators change pressure from the cab.

Indian and Chinese Suppliers Push VF Into the Mid-Price Tier

The premium end of the market was once held by Michelin, Trelleborg and Firestone. BKT, CEAT and Ascenso now offer VF ranges in North America and Europe at lower prices. BKT added a VF version of its Agrimax Proharvest at Agritechnica 2025 and brought the tire to the US Farm Progress Show in September 2026. This price competition widens adoption among mid-size farms and raises the IF/VF share of replacement sales.

Restraints and Challenges

Deep Cyclical Swings in Farm Equipment Sales

OEM fitment follows machinery sales, and those fell sharply in 2025. AEM data show US total tractor registrations down 9.9% to 195,857 units, 4WD tractors down 41.6% to 2,543 units and self-propelled combines down 35.6% to 3,576 units. Michelin said in its February 2026 results that its agricultural business stayed under pressure from weak OE demand. A second weak year would delay OEM VF adoption by several quarters.

Higher Prices and Rim Compatibility

VF tires cost more than standard radials and many sizes need dedicated rims with stronger beads. That extra cost slows replacement sales on older tractors. BKT's Narrow Rim Option on its Agrimax V-Flecto, which works on standard ETRTO rims, shows how suppliers are trying to remove this barrier, but most of the installed fleet still runs rims built for standard tires.

Benefits Depend on Correct Inflation Practice

A VF tire only delivers lower compaction if the operator lowers pressure in the field and raises it on the road. Many farms do not change pressure, so the benefit is lost and the price premium is hard to justify. Central tire inflation systems solve the problem, but they add cost and are fitted to only a small share of tractors outside large farms in Europe and North America.

Raw Material and Trade Costs

Natural rubber, synthetic rubber and steel cord prices drive farm tire costs, and tariffs on imported tires have raised landed costs in the US since 2025. Exporters in India and Sri Lanka that serve the North American replacement market face margin pressure, which can slow price cuts on VF ranges. Industry data from the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers' Association also show European agricultural replacement sell-in fell 4% in 2025 to 688,000 units, a reminder that the base market is soft.

Growth Drivers

Soil Health Law Puts Compaction on the Policy Agenda

The EU Soil Monitoring Law was approved by the Council on 29 September 2025 and by Parliament on 23 October 2025, and it entered into force on 16 December 2025, according to the European Commission. Member States have until 16 December 2028 to put it into national law, and soil compaction is one of the threats it names. The law does not ban heavy machines, but it creates monitoring and reporting duties that make farm advisers, cooperatives and contractors more aware of compaction costs. Europe already buys 37.40% of IF/VF agricultural tires, and as national soil plans take shape between 2026 and 2028, we expect low-pressure tires to become a standard recommendation for heavy tractors, tankers and spreaders. We estimate this policy pull adds about 1.1 percentage points to the market's annual growth over the forecast period, most of it in Europe from 2027 onward.

Bigger Tractors Need More Load Capacity per Tire

Even though US over-100 hp tractor registrations fell to 17,648 units in 2025, the average size of each new machine keeps rising, and that matters more for flexion tires than unit counts. A 400 hp or larger tractor with ballast can exceed the load rating of a standard radial at field pressures, so OEMs specify VF to stay within limits without fitting duals. Firestone Ag's VF480/95R54, developed with John Deere and rated for 16,100 pounds, is a clear example of how sizes and machines are designed together. Each new tractor platform that ships with VF as standard creates OEM demand now and replacement demand three to five years later. We attribute roughly 1.6 points of yearly growth to this upsizing effect, making it the single largest driver in our forecast.

Sprayer and Trailer Fleets Move to Low-Pressure Tires

Sprayers, slurry tankers and grain carts carry heavy, shifting liquid loads and travel on roads between fields, which makes them ideal for VF tires. CEAT's Spraymax Pro launched in North America in September 2026, Alliance's Agriflex+ 377 for floaters and grain carts, and Michelin's TrailXBib VF range for trailers and tankers all target this duty. Contractors who run these machines thousands of hours a year see fuel and tire wear savings quickly, so they buy VF at replacement rather than waiting for a new machine. The sprayer segment's 9.10% CAGR and the trailer segment's 8.30% CAGR reflect this pull, and together they lift total market growth by close to 0.9 of a point a year.

Opportunities

Large-Farm Mechanization in Brazil and Argentina

Latin America grows at 9.80% a year, the fastest of any region. Brazilian soybean, corn and cotton farms are buying high-horsepower tractors and self-propelled sprayers, and many operate on soils where compaction cuts yields. Suppliers that build local distribution and offer VF sizes for 300 hp tractors and sprayers can win share before the market matures.

Bundling Tires With Pressure Control

Tire makers and dealers can sell VF tires together with central tire inflation systems, pressure monitoring and agronomic advice. This raises the value of each sale, ensures the tire delivers its promised benefit and creates service revenue. Trelleborg's use of a unique QR code on each TM200 tire to give best-use and pressure guidance points to the kind of digital support that can make bundled offers work.

Europe Leads IF/VF Demand While Latin America Grows Fastest

Europe

Europe held 37.40% of the IF/VF agricultural tires market in 2025, worth about USD 516.12 Million, and its revenue is forecast to reach USD 973.39 Million by 2035 at a 6.55% CAGR. European farmers adopted VF early because of high-horsepower tractors, heavy slurry tankers and wet soils, and Michelin, Trelleborg, Mitas and BKT all launch new VF ranges at Agritechnica in Hanover. Tyres Europe data show European agricultural replacement sell-in fell 4% in 2025 to 688,000 units, yet the flexion share of that volume continued to rise. The EU Soil Monitoring Law, which entered into force in December 2025, gives Europe a policy reason to keep moving toward low-pressure tires.

North America

North America accounted for 30.80% of 2025 revenue, about USD 425.04 Million, and is expected to reach USD 843.97 Million by 2035, growing at 7.10% a year. The US is the main market, where AEM data show 17,648 over-100 hp tractors and 2,543 4WD tractors were registered in 2025, both sharply lower than in 2024. North American growth comes from row-crop tractors on R50 and R54 sizes, sprayers and grain carts, and from Firestone Ag, BKT, CEAT and Ascenso launching VF sizes at Commodity Classic, the National Farm Machinery Show and the Farm Progress Show.

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) took 16.90% of the market in 2025, worth around USD 233.22 Million, and is projected to grow at 9.05% a year to USD 554.65 Million by 2035. Australia's broad-acre farms are the biggest buyers of VF tires in the region today, while China and India are mainly suppliers, with BKT, CEAT and ZC Rubber making flexion tires for export. As Chinese farms consolidate and buy larger tractors, domestic IF/VF demand in APAC will rise from a low base.

Latin America

Latin America represented 11.20% of 2025 revenue, about USD 154.56 Million, and will be the fastest region at 9.80% a year, reaching USD 393.66 Million by 2035. Brazil accounts for most of this, with large soybean, corn and sugarcane farms buying 300 hp tractors, self-propelled sprayers and high-capacity grain carts. Argentina adds demand from no-till farms that value lower compaction, and suppliers are expanding dealer networks across the Brazilian Cerrado.

Middle East

The Middle East held 2.10% of the market in 2025, roughly USD 28.98 Million, and should reach USD 60.29 Million by 2035 at 7.60% a year. Demand is concentrated in Turkey, which has a large tractor fleet and local tire makers such as Petlas and Ozka, and in large irrigated farms in Saudi Arabia that use center-pivot systems, where flotation and low-pressure tires reduce rutting.

Africa

Africa accounted for 1.60% of 2025 revenue, about USD 22.08 Million, and is projected to grow at 8.15% a year to USD 48.34 Million by 2035. South Africa's commercial grain farms and contractors are the main buyers, and new mechanization programs in Kenya, Zambia and Nigeria add a small but growing base of high-horsepower tractors that can use IF casings.

Premium Western Brands Lead IF/VF Sales but Indian Suppliers Are Closing the Gap

The IF/VF agricultural tires market is moderately concentrated. A handful of groups, Michelin, Yokohama TWS (which owns the Trelleborg, Mitas and Alliance brands), Bridgestone (Firestone), BKT and CEAT, account for most VF revenue, but price competition is rising as Indian and Chinese makers add VF sizes and dealers look for lower-cost options for mid-size farms. Competition centers on three things: the number of VF sizes on offer, OEM approvals with John Deere, CNH, AGCO and CLAAS, and dealer support on inflation practice.

Global Premium Leaders

Michelin pioneered Ultraflex VF technology and sells VF ranges for tractors, sprayers and trailers, including the TrailXBib line for trailers, spreaders and tankers; its Specialty segment posted EUR 5.663 billion of sales in 2025. Bridgestone sells the Firestone Ag range in North America, where its Maxi Traction and Radial Deep Tread 23 degree lines now reach VF480/95R54, a size developed with John Deere for its newest tractors, and it markets the VX-Tractor range in Europe.

Yokohama TWS Brand Portfolio

Yokohama TWS combines three well-known farm brands. Trelleborg is known for its ProgressiveTraction tractor tires and launched the TM200 ProgressiveTraction, a conventional VF tire for vineyards and orchards, in November 2025. Mitas launched its Granterra VF PFO range for high-horsepower tractors at the same show. Alliance sells the Agriflex+ 377 VF flotation tire for floaters, spreaders and grain carts. This portfolio lets the group cover premium, mid-range and value price points in the IF/VF agricultural tires market.

Value-Focused Challengers From India

BKT (Balkrishna Industries) is India's largest off-highway tire maker and sells VF lines such as the Agrimax V-Flecto, the first BKT tire with its Narrow Rim Option for standard ETRTO rims, and the newer VF Agrimax Proharvest for combines. CEAT Specialty markets VFlex products and launched the Spraymax Pro VF sprayer tire in the US in September 2026. Ascenso introduced the VDR2000 tractor, VDR900 and VDR901 sprayer and VIR2500 implement VF tires for North America in about 50 sizes. These companies compete on price and on fast size expansion.

Other Specialists and Regional Players

Maxam Tire sells AgriXtra VF tires for high-clearance tractors and sprayers and presented an AgriXtra XL VF line at Agritechnica 2025. Prometeon offers its Serie 02 agricultural range with standard, IF and VF options, and Nokian Tyres serves Nordic farm and forestry users. Petlas and Ozka in Turkey and ZC Rubber in China serve price-sensitive buyers, which pressures the mid-range of the market and gives farmers more choice when replacing tires.

Primary Interview Insights

OEM Fitment

How quickly are tractor makers moving to VF as standard?

Product managers at two tractor OEMs told us VF is now the default on most new models above 300 hp in Europe and North America. They expect IF to remain the standard on mid-size tractors for several more years because of cost.

Replacement

Do farmers buy VF again when they replace tires?

Dealers in the US Midwest told us roughly two out of three VF owners stay with VF at replacement. Those who switch back usually cite price or the need for a new rim.

Inflation Practice

Are operators actually lowering pressure in the field?

Contractors told us that without a central tire inflation system most operators leave pressure at the road setting. Suppliers see CTIS bundling as the main way to prove the VF benefit.

Pricing

How large is the VF price premium?

Distributors said the premium over a standard radial of the same size has narrowed as Indian brands added VF ranges. They expect further narrowing as more sizes reach volume production.

Regional Demand

Where is new demand coming from?

Suppliers named Brazil as the strongest new market, driven by large sprayers and high-horsepower tractors. European buyers are expected to stay steady, with soil rules adding a long-term push.
