Mining rims and Asian equipment output carry growth while tariffs and weak U.S. farm demand hold back the West

Off-highway equipment makers and fleets bought USD 4.86 Billion of wheels in 2025, and the Off-Highway Wheels market rises to USD 5.07 Billion in 2026 and USD 7.46 Billion by 2035, a 4.38% CAGR. Radial Insights sizes 2025 demand at USD 4.86 Billion across agriculture, construction, mining, material handling and forestry machines, with mining and Asian construction output adding the most new revenue over the decade.

The study covers wheels and rims fitted to agricultural tractors, combines and implements, construction equipment, mining haul trucks and loaders, material handling machines such as forklifts and port equipment, and forestry machines. It includes single-piece and multi-piece rims, adjustable track wheels, and the lock rings, bead seat bands and flanges sold with them, across OEM and aftermarket channels. Road vehicle wheels for cars, trucks and trailers are excluded, as are tires, which we cover in separate Radial Insights studies.

Wheel demand follows equipment output, and 2025 gave mixed signals. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers reported U.S. farm tractor sales of 195,857 units in 2025, down 9.9%, with combine sales down 35.6%. European construction equipment sales rose 4.6% in 2025 according to CECE, and India's tractor industry crossed 1.05 million domestic units in the first 11 months of FY26. Titan International, the largest U.S. supplier, reported FY2025 agricultural sales of USD 740.9 million, down 6.0%, while its earthmoving and construction sales held almost flat at USD 581.7 million. Caterpillar's Resource Industries segment, a proxy for mining fleet investment, grew 13% in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The 50 Inches and Above rim class is the fastest growing segment at 5.45% a year, tied to mining haul trucks and large loaders. The Aftermarket grows at 5.10% against 4.05% for OEM sales, because mining multi-piece rims need regular inspection and replacement.

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 36.40% of 2025 revenue and is the largest region. Africa grows fastest at 5.40% a year on mining demand, while U.S. steel tariffs of 50% weigh on North America.

Mining Equipment grows at 5.30% while Agricultural Machinery trails at 3.85%

Mining fleets are expanding with copper, iron ore and gold output, and each ultra-class haul truck runs six large multi-piece wheels. Caterpillar's Resource Industries segment grew 13% to USD 3.353 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025. Construction Equipment, at 4.55%, follows infrastructure spending in Asia and Europe. Material Handling and Forklifts grow at 4.70% with warehouse and port activity. Agricultural Machinery is the largest segment by volume but grows slowest outside forestry, because U.S. and European farm incomes were weak through 2025 and 2026.

Multi-Piece Wheels grow at 5.05% against 4.10% for Single-Piece Wheels

Multi-piece rims, made of a base, lock ring, bead seat band and flanges, are standard on large earthmoving and mining machines. Their components are inspected and replaced on fixed schedules, which creates recurring revenue. Adjustable and Variable Track Wheels, at 4.40%, serve row-crop tractors and sprayers whose track width must match crop rows.

Aluminum and Other materials grow at 4.90%, Steel at 4.25%

Steel accounts for most off-highway wheels because of its strength and low cost. Lighter materials are used where machine weight limits payload, such as aerial work platforms and some forklifts. U.S. tariffs on steel derivatives at 50% from June 2025 have raised the cost of imported steel wheels, but they have not shifted buyers to other materials at scale.

Rims of 50 Inches and Above grow at 5.45% while sizes Up to 24 Inches grow at 4.15%

Rims of 50 inches and above are fitted almost entirely to mining haul trucks, large loaders and dozers. The 25 to 49 Inches class, at 4.60%, covers large tractors, articulated dump trucks and port machines. The Up to 24 Inches class serves compact equipment, implements and forklifts and is the most price competitive.

Aftermarket sales grow at 5.10%, ahead of OEM at 4.05%

Mines and quarries replace rim components after cracks or corrosion are found, and fleets in Asia, Africa and Latin America keep older machines in service longer. OEM sales track equipment builds, which were down in North American agriculture in 2025 but rising in India and Europe.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Tariffs are redrawing supply chains for wheels sold into the United States

A U.S. proclamation raised Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs from 25% to 50% from 4 June 2025. In August 2025 the Commerce Department added 407 derivative product categories, including parts of construction and mining machinery under HTS heading 8431. A second proclamation, effective 6 April 2026, applied the 50% duty to the full value of steel derivatives, with a 10% rate for goods made from U.S.-melted metal. Wheel importers told us they are reviewing sourcing from India, Turkey and China.

Europe is protecting its steel base

The European Commission proposed in October 2025 to cut tariff-free steel quotas by 47% to 18.3 million tonnes and to set a 50% duty on volumes above quota. The EU Council adopted the new steel rules in June 2026, applying from 1 July 2026. European wheel makers gain some protection, but their steel input costs rise.

Indian wheel makers are building export capacity

Wheels India started its export-focused Mambattu plant for tractor wheels in November 2025, with exports at about 26% of first-half FY26 sales. India's construction equipment exports rose about 32% in FY26 according to ICEMA data, showing how Indian suppliers are moving into global off-highway supply chains.

Wheel design is following low-pressure tire technology

In May 2026 moveero launched the Profi-Max agricultural wheel, which it says carries 20% more load at 10% less weight and is designed for VF and CT tires. Low-pressure tires need stronger wheels to carry heavy loads at reduced inflation, which raises value per wheel even when unit sales are flat.

Restraints and Challenges

Steel tariffs raise costs and slow equipment demand

The April 2026 U.S. proclamation on steel and aluminum imports applies a 50% duty to the full value of steel derivatives. CECE estimated in September 2025 that expanded U.S. tariffs affect about EUR 2.8 billion of European construction equipment exports. Titan's CEO said in November 2025 that tariffs had a dampening effect on new equipment demand.

Weak farm incomes cut agricultural wheel volume

AEM data show U.S. sales of four-wheel-drive tractors fell 41.6% in 2025 and combines fell 35.6%. Titan reported second-quarter 2026 agricultural sales down 5.0% to USD 183.6 million, citing lower farm incomes and higher financing costs. Agricultural wheels are the largest segment, so this weakness weighs on the global rate.

Volatile steel prices squeeze margins

Titan said higher steel prices hurt agricultural margins in the second quarter of 2026. Wheel makers buy hot-rolled steel in large volumes, and OEM contracts often adjust for steel only with a lag, leaving suppliers exposed to sudden price rises.

Safety and service skills limit aftermarket growth in some regions

Multi-piece rims can fail violently if serviced incorrectly. Mines need trained technicians and inspection programs, and the shortage of such skills in remote sites slows the adoption of more complex rim systems.

Growth Drivers

Mining fleet expansion and larger haul trucks

Demand for copper, iron ore and battery metals keeps mining fleets growing. Caterpillar's Resource Industries segment posted fourth-quarter 2025 sales of USD 3.353 billion, up 13%. Each large haul truck uses six multi-piece rims of 51 to 63 inches, and rim components are replaced on inspection cycles. RIMEX, which supplies mining wheels, lock rings, bead seat bands and the TyreSense monitoring system, opened a South African headquarters in 2025 to serve this demand. Mining wheels carry the highest value per unit in the market. We estimate that mining demand lifts the global growth rate by about 1.0 percentage point a year, explaining why the 50 Inches and Above segment grows at 5.45%.

Construction and tractor demand in Asia

India is now the largest tractor market in the world by units. Domestic tractor sales reached 1,057,038 units in the first 11 months of FY26, against 859,767 in all of FY25, according to TMA data. India's construction equipment exports rose about 32% in FY26, even as total sales dipped 2% to 136,995 units. Wheels India and Steel Strips Wheels supply both domestic OEMs and export customers. China and Southeast Asia add infrastructure demand. Asian volume accounts for roughly 1.1 points of the forecast's yearly growth and makes Asia Pacific (APAC) the largest region at 36.40% of 2025 revenue.

Heavier machines and low-pressure tire technology

Tractors, sprayers and loaders are getting heavier, and farmers use VF and CT tires at low pressure to protect soil. These tires need wheels with stronger discs and rims. The moveero Profi-Max wheel, launched in May 2026, claims 20% more load capacity at 10% lower weight. Titan's FY2025 earthmoving and construction sales held near USD 581.7 million despite weak markets, helped by higher-value products, and its first-quarter 2026 earthmoving sales rose 11.3% to USD 159.5 million on European wheel volume. This shift in product mix is worth about +0.6% of annual growth through 2035.

Opportunities

Aftermarket service programs for mines

Suppliers that combine rim supply with inspection, non-destructive testing and tire pressure monitoring can lock in multi-year contracts with mining fleets. The aftermarket already grows at 5.10%, and service contracts raise margin and customer retention.

Local production to avoid tariffs

The April 2026 U.S. rule taxes steel derivatives at 10% when made from U.S.-melted metal against 50% for others. Suppliers that assemble wheels in the United States from U.S. steel, as Titan does, gain a cost edge over importers in the North American market.

Asia Pacific is the largest market, and Africa grows fastest on mining demand

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) accounted for 36.40% of 2025 revenue, about USD 1.77 Billion, and reaches USD 2.95 Billion in 2035 at a 5.25% CAGR. India sold more than 1.05 million tractors in the first 11 months of FY26, and Asia Pacific (APAC) also hosts large construction equipment output in China, Japan and Korea, where Topy Industries supplies construction machinery wheels.

North America

North America held 25.10% of the market in 2025, or USD 1.22 Billion, and grows to USD 1.75 Billion by 2035 at 3.70% a year. U.S. farm tractor sales fell 9.9% to 195,857 units in 2025, and the 50% tariff on steel derivatives raises costs for North America buyers. Titan International, the region's largest supplier, guides 2026 sales of USD 1.85 billion to USD 1.95 billion.

Europe

Europe represented 26.70% of 2025 revenue, worth USD 1.30 Billion, rising to USD 1.84 Billion in 2035 at a 3.55% CAGR. European construction equipment sales grew 4.6% in 2025 and CECE expects a further 2% to 2.5% in 2026. New EU steel rules from July 2026 support Europe's wheel makers, including moveero and Titan Europe, but raise input costs.

Latin America

Latin America took 6.60% of 2025 revenue, about USD 0.32 Billion, and expands to USD 0.51 Billion by 2035 at 4.80% a year. Brazil's grain sector and Chilean and Peruvian copper mines drive Latin America demand, and Maxion Wheels has deep roots in Brazil.

Middle East

The Middle East held 2.80% of the market in 2025, worth USD 0.14 Billion, reaching USD 0.22 Billion in 2035 at a 4.90% CAGR. Large construction programs in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and port expansion keep Middle East demand for earthmoving and material handling wheels steady.

Africa

Africa accounted for 2.40% of 2025 revenue, or USD 0.12 Billion, and grows fastest to USD 0.20 Billion in 2035 at 5.40% a year. Mining in South Africa, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana drives Africa demand, and RIMEX opened a South African headquarters in 2025.
