Hollow Bars and Active Roll Control for Heavier Electric Vehicles Lift Stabilizer Bar Revenue at 4.36% a Year

Global spending on Automotive Stabilizer Bars reached USD 4.74 Billion in 2025 and should climb to USD 4.95 Billion in 2026 and USD 7.26 Billion by 2035, a 4.36% CAGR. Heavier SUVs and electric vehicles, the shift from solid to hollow bars and early volumes of active roll systems drive most of that rise.

A stabilizer bar, also called an anti-roll bar or sway bar, is a torsion spring that links the left and right wheels of an axle to limit body roll in corners. Our scope covers solid and hollow (tubular) stabilizer bars, stabilizer end links and bushings sold with them, and active roll stabilizer systems that use an electric motor or hydraulic actuator to twist the bar, for passenger cars, SUVs, light trucks and commercial vehicles, sold to vehicle makers and in the aftermarket. We exclude coil springs, leaf springs, shock absorbers, control arms and complete axle modules. Whole-market values are in USD Billion, and regional values in USD Million.

Active roll stabilizer systems are the fastest-growing product at an 11.80% CAGR from a small base, because premium SUVs and electric vehicles use them to cut roll without harming ride comfort. Hollow bars grow at 5.40% as vehicle makers trade solid steel for tubes that save weight, while solid bars grow at only 2.60%. Battery electric vehicles are the fastest-growing propulsion segment at 8.40%.

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds 50.80% of 2025 value, supported by vehicle production in China, Japan, India and South Korea. Africa is the fastest-growing region at a 5.35% CAGR, followed by Asia Pacific at 4.92% and the Middle East at 4.85%.

In May 2025, NHK Spring announced a new plant in Aurangabad, India, to make coil springs and stabilizer bars from 2027, with a first-phase investment of about JPY 2.0 billion. The Automotive Stabilizer Bars market also links to tires: worn links and bushings cause clunks and uneven handling that many technicians find during tire and alignment service.

Active Roll Systems Grow at 11.80% While Solid Bars Slow to 2.60%

Solid bars remain the most common product on compact cars because they are cheap and simple, but they grow at only 2.60%. Hollow bars grow at 5.40% because a tube with the same stiffness weighs much less than a solid bar, and Mubea, NHK Spring and Chuo Spring have built tube bending and heat treatment lines for them. Stabilizer links grow at 4.20%, supported by replacement demand. Active roll stabilizer systems grow fastest at 11.80%: Schaeffler put its electromechanical active roll control into volume production at Schweinfurt, and ZF supplies similar systems, but high cost keeps them on premium models.

Rear Bars Grow at 4.55% as Independent Rear Suspensions Spread

Front bars carry most of the value because nearly every light vehicle has one, and they grow at 4.25%. Rear bars grow faster at 4.55% because multi-link rear suspensions on SUVs and electric vehicles usually add a rear stabilizer, while many older twist-beam axles did not need a separate bar.

SUVs and Light Trucks Grow at 4.85% on Height and Weight

SUVs and light trucks are the largest and fastest-growing vehicle type at 4.85%, because their higher center of gravity needs stiffer bars and they keep taking share from sedans. Passenger cars grow at 3.70%, and commercial vehicles at 3.60%, where heavy trucks use large solid bars and cab stabilizers.

Battery Electric Platforms Grow at 8.40% While Combustion Platforms Slow to 2.20%

Battery electric vehicles grow fastest at 8.40% because their heavy battery packs raise roll loads and many use hollow or active bars to save weight. Hybrid vehicles grow at 6.10%. Internal combustion platforms grow at 2.20% as new launches move to electrified powertrains, though they still dominate the installed base and aftermarket.

The Aftermarket Grows at 4.75% on Link and Bushing Wear

OEM fitment grows at 4.20%, tied to vehicle production and content per vehicle. The aftermarket grows at 4.75% because stabilizer links and bushings wear quickly on rough roads and the U.S. light vehicle fleet averages a record 12.9 years. Dorman Products, Mevotech and Tenneco's MOOG brand supply most replacement links in North America.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Japanese Spring Makers Are Building New Capacity in India

In May 2025, NHK Spring announced a third Indian plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, to produce coil springs and stabilizer bars, with about JPY 2.0 billion of first-phase investment, around 350 employees and production starting in 2027. India produced 6.49 million vehicles in 2025, and local stabilizer supply close to new vehicle plants reduces freight and import cost.

Active Roll Control Is Moving From Luxury Cars to Premium SUVs

Electromechanical active roll stabilizers replace hydraulic systems and let vehicle makers tune roll stiffness in real time. Schaeffler has put its system into volume production at Schweinfurt with a software platform from Continental, and similar systems are spreading to large electric SUVs, which is why active systems grow at 11.80% in our forecast.

Bracket and Fastener Quality Is Under Recall Scrutiny

In April 2025, General Motors recalled Cadillac Lyriq vehicles because front stabilizer bar bracket bolts may have been under-tightened and could damage high-voltage cables. In October 2025, Isuzu recalled about 17,084 Isuzu and Chevrolet medium-duty trucks because stabilizer bracket bolts could crack and break. Vehicle makers are adding torque monitoring and redesigning brackets as a result.

Suspension Spring Suppliers Are Restructuring for Profit

In May 2026, NHK Spring reported automotive suspension spring sales of JPY 167.4 billion for the year to March 2026, down 0.9%, with an operating profit of only JPY 0.7 billion, and forecast a rise to JPY 4 billion as North American and European operations improve. In February 2026, Sogefi reported 2025 revenue of EUR 984.8 million. Suppliers are focusing on hollow bars and electric vehicle programs where margins are better.

Restraints and Challenges

Thin Margins and Tariff Costs

Stabilizer bars are steel-intensive and price-competitive, so suppliers earn thin margins. NHK Spring said tariffs weighed on suspension spring profit in North America in its May 2026 briefing, and a 25% U.S. tariff on covered automobile parts has applied since May 2025. Importers and foreign plants have to absorb or pass on these costs.

Recalls Expose Suppliers to Warranty Costs

A detached stabilizer bracket can become a road hazard or damage electric vehicle wiring. The October 2025 Isuzu recall of about 17,084 trucks over cracked bracket bolts is one example (NHTSA recall document). Each recall adds cost and leads vehicle makers to tighten supplier audits.

High Cost of Active Systems

Active roll stabilizers need motors, gearboxes, sensors and software, and cost many times more than a passive bar. This confines them to premium vehicles and limits how fast they can raise market value outside luxury segments.

Steel Price and Quality Requirements

Hollow bars need high-strength seamless or welded tube and precise heat treatment. Changes in steel prices and trade measures move costs quickly, and only a few suppliers can meet fatigue requirements for thin-wall tubes, which limits supply.

Growth Drivers

Electric Vehicles and Heavier SUVs Need Stiffer, Lighter Bars

OICA reported in April 2026 that global vehicle production rose 3.9% to 96.4 million units in 2025, and that China alone built 16.626 million new energy vehicles, up 29%. Electric vehicles carry heavy battery packs, and large SUVs have a high center of gravity, so both need stiffer stabilizer bars, often front and rear. Because these vehicles must also save weight to protect range, vehicle makers specify hollow bars from suppliers such as Mubea, NHK Spring and Chuo Spring. We estimate that electrification and the SUV mix add about +1.3% of annual growth to the Automotive Stabilizer Bars market, and they explain the 8.40% CAGR of battery electric platforms.

Lightweighting Moves Value From Solid to Hollow Bars

A hollow bar can match the stiffness of a solid bar while using far less steel, and it sells at a higher price per unit because it needs tube forming, induction heat treatment and shot peening. Vehicle makers in Europe and Japan already use hollow bars widely, and Chinese and Indian makers are following. In May 2025, NHK Spring announced its Aurangabad plant in India for stabilizers and coil springs, and Mitsubishi Steel and Sogefi also make hollow bars for global platforms. This product shift is worth roughly 0.8 percentage point of the market's yearly growth, concentrated in APAC.

Older Fleets and Link Replacement

The Auto Care Association reported in June 2026 that the average U.S. light vehicle age reached a record 12.9 years and that the U.S. aftermarket grew 3.9% in 2025, with 5.4% growth forecast for 2026 to USD 599.7 billion. Stabilizer links and bushings are among the most frequently replaced chassis parts because their small ball joints wear quickly over potholes. Dorman Products, Mevotech and Tenneco's MOOG brand keep adding links to cover more vehicles. Replacement demand lifts the annual growth rate by an estimated +0.6% and keeps the aftermarket ahead of OEM at 4.75%.

Opportunities

Lower-Cost Active Roll Systems

Suppliers that can bring active roll control down in cost, for example by using 48-volt systems on a single axle, could move the technology into mainstream SUVs and electric vehicles and lift value per vehicle.

Electric Vehicle Coverage in the Aftermarket

Electric vehicles sold in large numbers from 2020 onward are now entering their first link and bushing replacement cycles. Aftermarket brands that add these parts early can win share before low-cost importers catch up.
