OTR Repair and Automated Retread Curing Lift Tire Vulcanizing Machine Demand While Conventional Truck Retreading Stalls

Sales of tire vulcanizing machines came to USD 486.30 Million in 2025, and Radial Insights projects USD 506.00 Million for 2026 and USD 723.31 Million by 2035, a 4.05% CAGR. The fastest gains come from mining tire repair and from automated, electrically heated curing equipment that cuts energy use per retread.

This report covers machines that vulcanize tires outside the original tire factory. It includes spot and section repair vulcanizers for passenger, truck and off-the-road (OTR) tires, precure retread curing chambers and autoclaves, mold-cure (hot-cure) retread presses and portable heat-and-pressure systems used to repair large mining tires. Curing presses used in new-tire plants, retread tread rubber, buffing machines sold on their own and conveyor belt splicing presses are excluded.

The tire vulcanizing machines market depends on how many tires are retreaded or repaired rather than scrapped. The US Tire Manufacturers Association estimates that about 15 million tires are retreaded in the United States each year and that roughly 44% of commercial truck tires in the US and Canada are retreads. In India, more than 70% of commercial vehicle tires are retreaded at least once, and the country has over 10,000 retreaders, mostly small and unorganized. These shops are the main buyers of chambers and repair vulcanizers.

Fully automatic machines are the fastest-growing segment at 6.35% a year, and OTR repair vulcanizing systems grow at 5.85%. Africa is the fastest-growing region at 5.40%, while Asia Pacific (APAC) is the largest market with a 38.20% share in 2025.

Growth is held back in North America and Western Europe, where low-cost new tire imports have cut retread volumes and closed plants. Germany's retread share of truck tire sales fell to 24.5% in 2025 from 27% in 2023, and Bandag Europe scheduled the closure of its Lanklaar plant in Belgium for the first half of 2025. Equipment makers are therefore shifting their focus toward mining, emerging markets and energy-saving upgrades.

OTR Repair Systems and Mold-Cure Presses Lead Machine Types

Spot and section repair vulcanizers are the most common machines in tire shops, but they grow at only 3.45% because many passenger tire repairs now use cold-cure patches. Precure retread curing chambers, the core of Bandag, Marangoni and Vipal style plants, grow at 3.60%, tied to flat truck retread volumes. Mold-cure retread presses grow faster at 4.70%, helped by orders such as Rigdon's 35 electrically heated presses from Cima Impianti announced in February 2025. OTR repair vulcanizing systems lead at 5.85% because a single mining tire repair can save thousands of dollars.

Electric Heating Replaces Steam Boilers

Steam-heated chambers and presses grow at just 2.40% since they need boilers, water treatment and more maintenance. Electric heating grows at 5.20%, driven by energy savings and simpler installation; Cima claims its electric presses save up to 30% of energy. Thermal oil systems grow at 3.30%, mainly in large plants that already run oil heaters.

OTR and Mining Tires Grow Fastest by Tire Type

Truck and bus tires account for most vulcanizing work but grow at 3.65% as Western retread volumes fall. OTR and mining tires grow at 5.60% because mines repair tires up to 63 inches that cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace. Passenger and light truck tires grow at 4.40%, led by European mold-cure retreading, and agricultural tires grow at 4.10%.

Automation Is the Fastest Route to Lower Labor Costs

Manual machines grow at only 2.30% as retreaders struggle to hire skilled operators. Semi-automatic units grow at 4.15%, while fully automatic machines lead at 6.35% with programmable cure cycles, data logging and remote monitoring that support quality audits.

Mining Service Centers Outpace Independent Retreaders

Independent retreaders grow at 3.20%, the slowest end user, because many small plants in the United States and Europe have closed. Franchise retread plants grow at 4.25% and tire repair shops at 3.85%. Mining and fleet service centers lead at 5.75%, as groups such as Kal Tire run dedicated OTR repair centers in Australia, Canada, Chile, Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Consolidation Among Vulcanizing Equipment Makers

In September 2025, REMA TIP TOP acquired key assets and operations of Canada's Almex Group, a maker of vulcanizing presses with installations in more than 120 countries and plants in Canada, China and Spain. The deal combines REMA TIP TOP's Thermopress OTR vulcanizers with Almex's press engineering and shows larger groups building full repair equipment portfolios.

Electric Mold-Cure Presses for Passenger Tire Retreading

In February 2025, German retreader Rigdon ordered 35 electrically heated vulcanization presses from Cima Impianti for bead-to-bead retreading of car tires, with deliveries running into 2026 and capacity targeted at up to 300,000 tires a year. Electric presses are replacing steam systems as retreaders try to cut energy costs.

New Retread Plants in Emerging Markets

In December 2025, Bridgestone's Bandag and Tegeta Motors agreed to build a retread factory in Rustavi, Georgia, with a USD 2 million initial investment and capacity of up to 5,000 retreads a year, using machinery from Europe and the United States. New plants in emerging markets offset closures in Western Europe.

Distribution Ownership Changes

In August 2026, Myers Industries sold Myers Tire Supply, a distributor of tire repair tools and equipment with USD 189 million in revenue, to Lion Equity Partners for USD 30 million. Changes in distribution ownership can shift which equipment brands shops are offered.

Restraints and Challenges

Low-Cost New Tire Imports Shrink Retread Volumes

USTMA's Tire Retreading Fact Sheet reports that US retread facilities fell from more than 1,000 in 2002 to an estimated 500 in 2023, blaming low-cost tire imports and unfair competition, and warns that oversupply could speed the decline. Fewer plants mean fewer buyers of curing chambers and presses.

Declining Retreading in Western Europe

Germany's BRV data show retreaded truck tire sales fell 1.7% in 2025, with retreads taking 24.5% of truck tire sales and two more German retread operations closing. ETRMA reported that European replacement truck and bus tire sales fell 4% in Q1 2025. Bandag Europe moved production from Belgium to Poland, citing a significant decline in demand.

Informal Operators and Weak Standards

In India, most of the more than 10,000 retreaders are unorganized and often use basic or locally built equipment. Proposals in December 2025 to make BIS retread standards mandatory could raise quality, but until they take effect, cheap machines limit sales of higher-value equipment.

Long Replacement Cycles

Curing chambers and presses can run for decades with basic maintenance, so replacement demand is slow. Many buyers rebuild or refurbish old units instead of buying new ones, which caps the market even when retread volumes are stable.

Growth Drivers

Mining Tire Costs Make Repair a Priority

Giant mining tires up to 63 inches are expensive and sometimes scarce, so mines repair damaged casings rather than scrap them. REMA TIP TOP's Thermopress EM vulcanizers, described in January 2025, repair tires over 4 tons at up to 170 degrees Celsius, and Kal Tire's Ultra Repair process covers 45-inch to 63-inch tires at 12 repair centers in five countries. Monaflex supplies heat-and-pressure repair systems for bead, sidewall and crown damage. Rising mine output in Africa, Latin America and Australia expands the pool of tires needing repair. Radial Insights estimates that mining repair demand adds about +1.0% of annual growth to the market through 2035.

Energy Costs Push Retreaders Toward Electric, Automated Equipment

High energy prices in Europe and labor shortages everywhere make older steam-heated, manually controlled chambers expensive to run. Cima Impianti claims up to 30% energy savings on its electric presses, and Rigdon's 35-press order in February 2025 shows retreaders replacing whole lines at once. Vipal used Autopromotec in May 2025 to show automated retread equipment such as its VR01 Smart DUO buffer, rated at up to 35 tires an hour, and VOC760 cushion applicator. Upgrade spending in established markets contributes roughly 0.9 percentage points to yearly growth, partly offsetting lower retread volumes.

Retreading Growth and Policy Support in Emerging Markets

India's retread market is worth INR 580 to 600 billion and grows 7% to 9% a year according to ICRA, with retreads costing 20% to 50% of a new tire. Bandag's new plant in Georgia, planned for completion in late 2026, will start at up to 5,000 retreads a year and double within five years. In the United States, USTMA backed H.R.3401 in May 2025, which would give fleets tax credits for buying US-made retreaded tires, and each retread saves about 15 gallons of oil. We credit emerging-market retreading and policy support with close to 1.3% of the market's yearly expansion, the largest driver.

Opportunities

Connected Curing Equipment for Quality Audits

Mandatory retread standards in India and fleet audits elsewhere require proof of correct cure cycles. Machines that log temperature, pressure and time and send data to the cloud can command higher prices and help retreaders win fleet contracts.

Mobile OTR Repair Units for Remote Mines

Portable vulcanizing systems that can be trucked to remote mine sites avoid moving huge tires to central workshops. Suppliers that pair equipment with training and repair materials can lock in long service agreements with mining fleets.

Asia Pacific Is the Largest Market for Tire Vulcanizing Machines Because Retreading Remains Standard Practice

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) held a 38.20% share in 2025, worth USD 185.8 Million, and is forecast to reach USD 295.5 Million by 2035 at a 4.75% CAGR. India alone has more than 10,000 retreaders and retreads over 70% of commercial vehicle tires at least once, and Elgi Rubber supplies electric curing chambers in 2-, 7- and 24-tire sizes. China and Southeast Asia add demand from local machine makers, and Tyrexpo Asia in Bangkok in May 2026 showcased equipment for Asia Pacific (APAC) buyers.

North America

North America accounted for 21.60% of 2025 revenue, about USD 105.0 Million, and is expected to reach USD 141.9 Million by 2035 at 3.05% a year.
