Tire Plant Expansions in Asia and North Africa Lift Rubber Extruder Spending at 4.48% a Year
Buyers spent USD 1.31 Billion on rubber extruders in 2025, and the Rubber Extruders market is set to reach USD 1.37 Billion in 2026 and USD 2.03 Billion by 2035, compounding at 4.48% a year. Spending follows the capital cycle of tire makers and automotive sealing suppliers, which in 2025 and 2026 was led by new truck and bus tire capacity in China and Egypt and by service build-outs in Mexico.
A rubber extruder forces a compounded, unvulcanized rubber through a screw and die to form a continuous profile: a tire tread, sidewall, apex or inner liner strip, a door seal, a hose tube or a cable jacket. Our scope covers single-screw cold feed, pin barrel cold feed, hot feed, vacuum and gear pump or strainer extruders, sold as standalone machines or as duplex, triplex and quadruplex coextrusion lines, together with retrofit, rebuild and service revenue. We exclude internal mixers, two-roll mills and calenders, thermoplastic and silicone injection machines, and downstream cooling conveyors sold as separate contracts. Whole-market values are stated in USD Billion, and regional values in USD Million.
Gear pump and strainer extruders form the fastest-growing type at a 5.60% CAGR, because tire makers want tighter dimensional control on thin inner liner and apex profiles and need to strain recycled and silica-rich compounds. Triplex and quadruplex lines grow at 5.15%, faster than single lines, as new tire plants install multi-compound tread lines from the start.
Asia Pacific (APAC) takes 52.30% of 2025 spending, the largest regional share, driven by China, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Africa is the fastest-growing region at 5.75% a year from a small base, followed by the Middle East at 5.25%, as tire and rubber goods capacity moves closer to European and Gulf customers.
The Rubber Extruders market is a long-cycle capital goods market. A tread line often runs for 20 years or more, so growth comes from three sources: greenfield tire plants, upgrades of conventional cold feed machines to pin barrel and gear pump designs, and a growing service and rebuild business as installed fleets age.

Pin Barrel Cold Feed Extruders Lead the Type Split While Gear Pump Designs Grow Fastest at 5.60%
Pin barrel cold feed extruders are the workhorse of modern tire and profile plants. Pins in the barrel break up the rubber flow, so the machine homogenizes and heats the compound without a separate warm-up mill, and output per kilowatt is higher than in conventional designs. This segment grows at 4.85%. Gear pump and strainer extruders grow fastest at 5.60% because a gear pump decouples pressure from screw speed and keeps output steady to within tight tolerances, which tire makers need for thin inner liner and apex strips. Vacuum extruders grow at 5.30% on demand for pore-free seals and hoses. Conventional cold feed extruders grow at 4.10%, and hot feed extruders, which need a warm-up mill in front, grow at only 1.90% as plants retire them.
Triplex and Quadruplex Lines Grow at 5.15% as Treads Get More Complex
Modern passenger and truck treads combine a base compound, a cap compound, wing strips and sometimes a conductive chimney for silica-rich treads, so they need three or four extruders feeding one die head. Triplex and quadruplex lines therefore grow at 5.15%. Duplex lines, common for sidewalls and simpler treads, grow at 4.20%, and single extruder lines grow at 3.80% because they mainly serve technical rubber goods and replacement demand.
Small-Diameter Machines Grow at 4.95% on Sealing and Cable Work
Machines up to 90 mm screw diameter grow at 4.95%, the fastest rate in this dimension, because they serve automotive seals, hoses and cable jackets, where many small lines run different profiles. The 90 mm to 200 mm class grows at 4.40% and covers most tire component lines. Machines above 200 mm grow at 4.25%; they are used for wide treads and large off-the-road tire components and are bought in smaller numbers.
Cables and Wires Lead Application Growth at 5.05%
Tire components remain the largest application and grow at 4.55%, tied to new truck and bus tire capacity. Cables and wires grow faster at 5.05% as rubber-insulated power, mining and EV charging cables need continuous vulcanization lines with cold feed extruders. Automotive seals and profiles grow at 4.70% because electric vehicles use more door, glass and battery enclosure seals, many extruded from EPDM. Hoses and tubes grow at 4.30%, and construction and industrial profiles grow at 3.70%, the slowest rate, on flat building activity in Europe and China.
Retrofit, Rebuild and Service Grow at 5.05% as Fleets Age
New equipment sales grow at 4.30%. Retrofit, rebuild and service grow at 5.05% because many extruders installed in the 2000s are due for new screws, barrels, gear pumps and control systems. VMI's new service facility in León, Mexico, opened in October 2026, shows suppliers following their installed base with local service capacity.

Market Dynamics
Market Trends
Suppliers Are Building Local Service Hubs Next to Their Installed Base
VMI opened a service facility in León, Mexico, in October 2026 to support what it called an increasing installed base in the region. Mexico hosts tire plants from several global producers, and each tread and sidewall line needs regular screw and barrel maintenance. Local service shortens downtime and supports the faster growth of the retrofit and service segment, at 5.05% a year.
Cooling, Handling and Line Automation Are Becoming Part of the Extruder Sale
In August 2026, VMI presented extrusion and cooling technology at the Global Polymer Summit in Louisville, Kentucky, including closed air circulation for batch-off systems. Buyers increasingly order the extruder, die head, cooling line and cutting system as one package with a single control system, which raises the value of each order and favors suppliers that can deliver complete lines.
Compound Formulation Changes Are Raising the Bar for Extruder Precision
Silica-rich low rolling resistance treads and compounds with recycled content are harder to extrude evenly. Additive suppliers are responding: in September 2025 LANXESS announced production of Aflux and Aktiplast processing promoters at its Bushy Park site in South Carolina, products used to improve flow in extrusion. Equipment makers respond with gear pumps, strainers and closed-loop gauge control. This is a main reason gear pump and strainer extruders grow about 3.70 percentage points faster than hot feed machines.
New Capacity Is Moving Toward Truck, Bus and Off-the-Road Tires
Sailun broke ground in September 2025 on an RMB 1.70 billion Shenyang expansion targeting 3.3 million all-steel radial truck and bus tires and 20,000 tonnes of off-road tires a year. Truck and off-road tires use wide treads and thick components, which keeps demand steady for large-diameter extruders above 200 mm even as passenger tire capacity growth slows in mature markets.
Restraints and Challenges
Weak Tire Volumes in Mature Markets Delay New Lines
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association forecasts U.S. tire shipments of 330.3 million units in 2026, down from 336.3 million in 2025, with original equipment passenger shipments easing to 41.0 million (USTMA July 2026 forecast). When volumes fall, tire makers delay new tread lines and extend the life of existing machines, which holds North American growth to about 3.65% a year.
Long Equipment Life Slows Replacement
A well-maintained extruder can run for 20-30 years. Many plants rebuild screws and barrels instead of buying new machines, which supports service revenue but caps new equipment sales growth at 4.30%.
Trade Barriers and Plant Closures Shift Investment Between Regions
Anti-dumping duties on Chinese tires in the United States and Europe have moved new capacity to Southeast Asia, Mexico, Serbia and North Africa. Several European tire plants closed or downsized from 2024 onward, so used extruders from those plants enter the second-hand market and compete with new machines in price-sensitive regions.
Price Competition From Chinese Machine Builders
Chinese rubber machinery makers offer cold feed and pin barrel extruders at prices well below European suppliers, and they increasingly win orders in South Asia, Africa and Latin America. European suppliers must justify higher prices through precision, energy use and service, which pressures margins on standard machines.
Growth Drivers
Greenfield Tire Capacity in China, Egypt and Southeast Asia
The largest source of new extruder orders is greenfield and brownfield tire capacity. Sailun's September 2025 groundbreaking in Shenyang, an RMB 1.70 billion investment for 3.3 million truck and bus tires and 20,000 tonnes of off-road tires a year, will need complete tread, sidewall and inner liner lines. In October 2025 Sailun also outlined a USD 1.14 billion expansion of tire production in Egypt covering passenger, truck and bus, and off-the-road tires, which is among the largest single tire investments announced for Africa. A typical radial tire plant needs several triplex or quadruplex tread lines plus duplex sidewall lines and single extruders for apex and bead fillers. We estimate that greenfield tire projects contribute about +1.4% of annual growth to the Rubber Extruders market through 2030, easing to about +1.0% after 2030 as the current wave of projects is commissioned. This driver explains why Africa grows at 5.75% and APAC at 5.00%.
Electric Vehicle Sealing and Cable Demand
Electric vehicles carry more extruded rubber per vehicle in some areas: battery enclosure seals, high-voltage cable jackets, coolant hoses for battery thermal systems and acoustic seals that matter more without engine noise. Sealing system suppliers extrude most of these profiles on small-diameter cold feed and vacuum extruders with continuous microwave or hot air curing. EV charging cable makers add rubber or elastomer jacketing lines for high-power cables. As a result, automotive seals and profiles grow at 4.70% and cables and wires at 5.05%. We put this driver's contribution at roughly 0.8 percentage points of the market's yearly growth, concentrated in machines up to 90 mm, which grow at 4.95%.
Upgrade Cycle Toward Pin Barrel and Gear Pump Technology
Older hot feed and conventional cold feed lines use more energy and need warm-up mills and extra operators. Replacing them with pin barrel and gear pump extruders cuts energy use, scrap and labor, and allows tighter tolerances that reduce material give-away on every tire. Suppliers such as Troester, VMI and KraussMaffei market these upgrades as productivity projects with short payback, and processing aid suppliers such as LANXESS support the same goal with flow promoters. Rising scrap costs from silica and recycled compounds make precision more valuable. The upgrade cycle adds an estimated +0.6% to the market's annual growth rate and is the main reason hot feed extruders grow at only 1.90% while gear pump designs grow at 5.60%.
Opportunities
Service Contracts and Digital Monitoring
With retrofit and service growing at 5.05%, suppliers can sell multi-year service contracts with screw wear monitoring and remote diagnostics. VMI's León facility is one example of a supplier positioning for this revenue in a region with a large installed base.
Lines for Recycled and Sustainable Compounds
Tire makers are raising recycled and renewable content in their compounds. Extruders with strainers and gear pumps that can handle these less uniform materials offer an opening for suppliers that can prove consistent output.
