Fast Tire Wear and Electric Off-Road Bikes Push Dirt Bike Tires to USD 2.24 Billion by 2035

Radial Insights estimates that global spending on Dirt Bike Tires reached USD 1.46 Billion in 2025 and will rise to USD 1.52 Billion in 2026 and USD 2.24 Billion by 2035, a 4.36% CAGR for 2025-2035.

We define the Dirt Bike Tires market as knobby and off-road tires built for off-highway motorcycles: motocross, enduro and hard enduro, trail and dual-sport, trials and youth or mini bikes, in both front and rear positions, sold to bike makers for original fitment and to riders through the aftermarket. Mousse inserts and tire-specific insert systems sold with or for these tires are included. Road-focused adventure tires with mostly road tread, ATV and UTV tires, and inner tubes sold alone are excluded and covered in other Radial reports.

Tires are a consumable in off-road riding. A racing rear tire on a motocross bike can be replaced after a handful of race days, and even trail riders replace knobbies far more often than road riders replace street tires. This makes aftermarket demand larger and steadier than new bike sales, which fell in several markets in 2025. The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) reported that US new motorcycle and scooter sales fell 7.6% in 2025, yet off-highway motorcycles gained 2 points of market share in the year and 8 points since 2019.

Tires for electric dirt bikes form the fastest-growing segment at 11.80% CAGR, led by makers such as Stark Future, whose 2025 revenue rose 77% to EUR 115 million. Asia Pacific (APAC) is the fastest-growing region at 5.60% a year. North America is the largest region, with 34.00% of 2025 value.

Supply is concentrated among a few premium brands that win in racing and then sell the same patterns to amateurs: Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli and its Metzeler brand, and Bridgestone. Value growth in the Dirt Bike Tires market comes from faster product cycles, softer and more specialized compounds, and a shift to tubeless and mousse setups, not only from unit growth.

By Riding Discipline: Enduro and Hard Enduro Leads at 4.80%

Enduro and Hard Enduro grows at 4.80%, the fastest discipline, because riders on rocky and technical terrain use soft, gummy compounds that wear fast and often pair them with mousse inserts. Michelin's Enduro 2 range in Medium, Hard and Xtrem versions, fitted as original equipment on Triumph's TF 250-E and TF 450-E enduro bikes, shows how makers are refreshing this category. Trail and Dual-Sport grows at 4.45% as new riders buy versatile bikes. Motocross grows at 4.10%, steady but tied to a mature racing base. Youth and Mini Bikes grows at 4.30% with family riding and electric balance and mini bikes. Trials grows at 3.20%, the slowest, as a small specialist niche.

By Tire Position: Rear Tires Grow at 4.45%

Rear tires grow faster than front tires, at 4.45% against 4.15%, because the driven wheel wears much faster in loose soil and riders replace rears more often. Electric bikes, which deliver full torque from standstill, make this gap wider.

By Tube System: Mousse and Insert Systems Grow at 5.20%

Mousse and Insert Systems grow at 5.20% as enduro riders adopt foam inserts that end pinch flats; Michelin added a Bib Mousse Gel version for 2025. Tubeless setups grow at 4.90% with the spread of tubeless-ready rims and insert systems. Tube-Type tires, still standard on most bikes, grow at 3.60%.

By Powertrain: Electric Grows at 11.80% Against 3.70% for Combustion

Electric is the fastest-growing segment at 11.80%. Stark Future said in January 2026 that its 2025 revenue rose 77% to EUR 115 million and that it held more than 3% of enduro motorcycle sales, while light electric off-road bikes from makers such as Sur-Ron add volume in the youth and trail categories. Internal Combustion grows at 3.70% and still accounts for nearly all tires sold in 2025.

By Sales Channel: Aftermarket Grows at 4.65%

The Aftermarket grows at 4.65% because a single bike uses many sets of tires over its life, and online retailers have made it easy to pick exact compounds and sizes. OEM Fitment grows at 3.40%, held back by weak new bike sales in 2025 and by inventory cuts at KTM's owner.

Market Dynamics

Market Trends

Racing-Derived Tires Reach Amateur Riders Faster

Tire makers now move factory-team designs into retail lines within one or two seasons. Pirelli launched the Scorpion MX32 Mid Soft in February 2025 with a new tread pattern and compound, after a debut at the International of Italy in Montevarchi, where its riders won both the MX1 and MX2 classes, and offered it in a front 80/100-21 and rear sizes from 100/90-19 to 120/90-19. Dunlop followed in May 2026 with the Geomax MX54 intermediate-hard tire, using a rear tread taken from its Factory Spec race tire, and released it in Europe in June 2026 in 17 sizes from 10 to 21 inches.

Electric Dirt Bikes Are Changing Tire Requirements

Electric motocross and enduro bikes deliver instant torque and carry battery weight low in the frame, which changes wear patterns on the rear tire. Stark Future reported record monthly revenue of EUR 18.3 million and positive EBITDA of EUR 2.8 million in April 2025, and full-year 2025 revenue of EUR 115 million. Honda has shown a CR Electric motocross prototype but has not confirmed a production date. Tire makers are testing compounds and carcass stiffness for these loads.

Off-Road Bike Makers Are Restructuring

KTM's creditors accepted its restructuring plan in February 2025, and production restarted gradually from mid-March 2025. Bajaj Auto took control in November 2025, after EU approval, and Pierer Mobility was renamed Bajaj Mobility. Bajaj Mobility reported 2025 revenue of EUR 1.009 billion on 209,704 motorcycles and cut dealer inventory by 101,153 units to 147,427. Lower stock at dealers should support OEM tire orders as production normalizes.

New Brands Are Entering Off-Road

Triumph entered the off-road market with its TF motocross and enduro models; the 2026 TF 250-E and TF 450-E, on sale from May 2025, ship on Michelin Enduro 2 tires and D.I.D DirtStar rims. New entrants bring new OEM tire contracts and widen the field of bikes that need replacement knobbies.

Restraints and Challenges

Weak New Bike Sales in Major Markets

ACEM reported 1,002,848 motorcycle registrations in 2025 across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, down 12.9%, with Germany down 35.7% and the UK down 19.3%. In the US, MIC data showed new motorcycle sales down about 8% in 2025. KTM group sales fell 28% by units in 2025 during its restructuring. Lower new bike output cuts OEM fitment volume and slows the growth of the riding fleet.

Tariffs and Trade Costs

US reciprocal tariffs announced in April 2025 hit the main tire exporting countries, including Thailand at 37%, Vietnam at 46%, Indonesia at 32%, Japan at 24% and China at 34%. Pirelli estimated a hit of about EUR 55 million from US tariffs in its 2025 results. Many dirt bike tires are made in Asia, so US retail prices rose and some riders delayed replacement.

Access to Riding Land and Emission Rules

Off-road riding depends on open land, private tracks and public trail systems, and noise and emission limits restrict where combustion bikes can ride. California's Air Resources Board certifies emissions for off-highway recreational vehicles, including off-road motorcycles, and restricts riding seasons for some non-compliant models (CARB off-highway recreational vehicle program). Closures reduce riding hours and therefore tire wear.

Price Pressure From Value Brands

Kenda, Maxxis and many Chinese and Indian brands sell knobbies well below premium prices, and online marketplaces make price comparison easy. Premium brands must justify their prices through racing results and compound performance, and road-legal dual-sport tires must also meet type-approval rules such as UN Regulation No. 75 for motorcycle tires (UNECE R75 text).

Growth Drivers

A Growing Share of Riders Choose Off-Highway Bikes

The MIC reported that off-highway motorcycles gained 2 points of US market share in 2025 and 8 points since 2019, even as total new motorcycle and scooter sales fell 7.6%. Buyers are shifting toward smaller, cheaper and more versatile bikes, and off-road models fit that demand. Honda, the world's largest motorcycle maker, sold 16.44 million motorcycles in April to December 2025, up 6%, and kept its full-year forecast of 21.3 million units, with growth in Brazil and India where trail and dual-purpose bikes are popular. Each new off-road bike adds years of tire replacement demand. We estimate that wider participation adds about +1.6% to the annual growth of the Dirt Bike Tires market, the largest of the three drivers.

Short Replacement Cycles and Premium Compounds

Knobby tires lose edge sharpness quickly, and racers replace rear tires after very few race days. Brands keep raising performance with new compounds: Pirelli's Scorpion MX32 Mid Soft in February 2025, Michelin's Enduro 2 family and Bib Mousse Gel for 2025, and Dunlop's Geomax MX54 in May 2026 with 17 sizes. Each launch lifts average selling prices and pulls riders toward premium lines. Mousse inserts and tubeless systems add spending per wheel. This combination of price and replacement frequency is worth roughly 1.1 percentage points of yearly growth, or +1.1%.

Electric Off-Road Motorcycles

Stark Future's revenue rose 77% to EUR 115 million in 2025, with fourth-quarter sales up 97%, and the company claims more than 3% of enduro motorcycle sales. Electric bikes ride quietly, which opens tracks and trails closed to combustion bikes, and their instant torque wears rear tires quickly. Light electric off-road bikes from Sur-Ron and others are bringing younger riders into the sport. Tires for electric bikes grow at 11.80%, and we credit this driver with an extra 0.9 points, about +0.9%, of annual market growth.

Opportunities

Tires Engineered for Electric Torque and Weight

No major brand yet sells a full electric-specific dirt bike tire line. A maker that develops a compound and carcass matched to instant torque and heavier bikes could win OEM contracts with Stark Future and new electric entrants, and then sell to their owners.

Online Direct-to-Rider Sales in Emerging Markets

Riding is growing in Brazil, India, Southeast Asia and Mexico, where trail and dual-sport bikes are common. Brands such as Pirelli, Metzeler, Maxxis and IRC can use online retail and local distribution to reach riders who today buy unbranded tires.

North America Leads Dirt Bike Tires With 34.00% While Asia Pacific Grows Fastest

Asia Pacific (APAC)

Asia Pacific (APAC) holds a 24.00% share of the global Dirt Bike Tires market in 2025, worth USD 0.35 Billion, and grows to USD 0.60 Billion by 2035 at a 5.60% CAGR, the fastest of all regions. Japan is home to Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki, Australia has a large motocross and trail riding community, and India and Southeast Asia are adding trail bike buyers. Honda's motorcycle sales rose 6% in April to December 2025.

North America

North America accounts for 34.00% of 2025 value, about USD 0.50 Billion, and grows at 3.85% to USD 0.72 Billion in 2035. Off-highway motorcycles gained 2 points of US market share in 2025, and the US hosts Supercross and Pro Motocross, the leading dirt bike racing series in the region. Dunlop launched the Geomax MX54 in the US in May 2026.

Europe

Europe takes a 27.00% share in 2025, equal to USD 0.39 Billion, and rises to USD 0.56 Billion by 2035 at 3.55% a year, the slowest rate. ACEM data show 2025 motorcycle registrations in the five largest markets fell 12.9% to 1,002,848 units. The region is still central to supply: Bajaj Mobility's KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas brands are based in Austria, and Pirelli, Metzeler and Michelin develop enduro and motocross tires there.

Latin America

Latin America has a 9.00% share in 2025, worth USD 0.13 Billion, and grows at 4.90% to USD 0.21 Billion in 2035. Brazil is one of Honda's largest motorcycle markets, and trail and dual-purpose bikes are common for rural transport as well as sport. Value brands from Asia hold a large share of replacement sales.

Middle East

The Middle East represents 3.50% of 2025 value, around USD 0.05 Billion, and grows at 4.70% to USD 0.08 Billion by 2035. Desert riding in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman drives demand for sand and mud tires, and rally events attract wealthy amateur riders who buy premium tires.

Africa

Africa holds a 2.50% share in 2025, USD 0.04 Billion, and grows at 5.20% to USD 0.06 Billion by 2035. South Africa has an established motocross and enduro scene, and trail motorcycles are used widely for rural transport across East and West Africa, though most of those tires are low-cost imports.

Racing-Led Premium Brands Compete With Value Makers in Dirt Bike Tires

The Dirt Bike Tires market is moderately concentrated at the premium end and fragmented at the value end. Four or five brands set tread design through factory racing programs, while Taiwanese, Japanese and many smaller Asian makers compete on price and breadth of sizes. Wins in Supercross, Pro Motocross, MXGP and enduro championships drive brand preference among amateur riders.

Premium Racing Brands

Dunlop, whose motorcycle tires are made by Sumitomo Rubber Industries, is best known in US motocross through its Geomax range, including the MX14, MX34, Factory Spec and the new MX54 launched in May 2026. Michelin sells the StarCross 6 motocross range, the Enduro 2 family introduced for 2025, the Tracker trail tire and Bib Mousse inserts, and holds OEM fitment on Triumph's enduro bikes. Pirelli competes in MXGP with its Scorpion MX range, refreshed with the MX32 Mid Soft in February 2025, and reported group sales of EUR 6.77 billion for 2025. Metzeler, part of the Pirelli group, is strong in enduro with its MCE 6 Days Extreme and in motocross with the MC360. Bridgestone sells the Battlecross X10, X20 and X30 motocross tires and the E50 enduro tire.

Value and Volume Makers

Maxxis, the brand of Taiwan's Cheng Shin Rubber, sells the Maxxcross MX-SI and MX-IH, developed with Jeremy McGrath, at prices below the premium brands. Kenda offers the Trakmaster, K760 and K761 dual-sport tires and K262 trials tires. IRC, from Japan's Inoue Rubber, expanded its trail and hard enduro range in 2024. Mitas, part of Yokohama TWS, sells the Terra Force-EX enduro line in Europe.

Bike Makers Shaping OEM Demand

Bajaj Mobility, owner of KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas, is the largest European off-road bike maker and sold 209,704 motorcycles in 2025. Honda is the world's largest motorcycle maker and a leading off-road brand. Stark Future, maker of the Varg electric motocross and enduro bike, turned profitable in 2025. Triumph Motorcycles and electric maker Sur-Ron add new OEM fitment contracts.

How Competition Is Shifting

Premium brands are shortening launch cycles and moving race compounds into retail faster, while value makers are adding intermediate and soft compounds. Electric bikes and mousse systems are the next areas where specialized products can command higher prices.
